Sayre Area School District SRO and Sayre Borough Police Department Partner with Drivers Education Class for Mock Traffic Stop

The Sayre Area School District School Resource Officer, Officer Spencer, has partnered with Sayre Area School District Drivers Education teacher Hannah Walker and the Sayre Borough Police Department, Officer Hatch who is the driver of the vehicle being stopped to provide students with a hands-on learning experience through a mock traffic stop.

The activity is designed to give students a safe and educational look at what takes place during a routine traffic stop and what they can expect when they are behind the wheel.

During the mock traffic stop, students will have the opportunity to observe and participate in a simulated interaction between a driver and a police officer. Officer Spencer will explain the different steps involved in a traffic stop, discuss what drivers should and should not do, and provide students with practical information about how to conduct themselves safely and appropriately when stopped by law enforcement.

The activity will also give students an opportunity to see a traffic stop from the perspective of a police officer. Officer Spencer and members of the Sayre Borough Police Department will discuss officer safety, communication, the importance of following instructions, and some of the factors officers consider during a traffic stop.

An important part of the activity will be an open question-and-answer session, allowing students to ask questions they may have about traffic stops, interactions with law enforcement, driving responsibilities, and other situations they may encounter as new drivers.

The goal is to make students more comfortable and informed about what to expect if they are ever stopped by a police officer. A traffic stop can be an unfamiliar experience for a new driver, and we want students to understand that communication, patience, and safety are important for everyone involved.

Walker and Officer Spencer hope the experience will help students develop confidence as new drivers while reinforcing the importance of responsible decision-making and safe driving practices.

The Sayre Area School District and Sayre Borough Police Department are committed to working together to provide students with meaningful opportunities to learn about safety, responsibility, and their community.

This mock traffic stop is intended strictly as an educational exercise and will take place in a controlled environment to ensure the safety of participating students and staff.

Sayre Borough Police Department and Sayre Area School District Recognize RISE Award Winners

The Sayre Borough Police Department and Sayre Area School District are proud to recognize the students selected as this year’s RISE Award winners at Snyder Elementary School.

RISE stands for Respectful, Inspirational, Safe, and Engaged. These students were nominated by their teachers and specially selected for demonstrating these important qualities throughout the school year.

The RISE Award is presented several times each year to hardworking, deserving students who consistently show strong character, positive behavior, and a commitment to doing what is right. This recognition is one of the ways the district and police department honor the outstanding efforts of Sayre students.

As a special reward, Sayre McDonald’s generously donated food for the students selected as RISE winners.

The Sayre Borough Police Department greatly appreciates McDonald’s generosity and its continued support of our students, schools, and community.

SRO Spencer also presented the McDonald’s restaurant with this year’s Sayre SRO patch as a thank-you for supporting the program and helping make this recognition possible.

A huge thank-you goes out to Sayre McDonald’s, the Sayre Area School District, Snyder Elementary School staff, and everyone who helps encourage and celebrate the positive character of our students.

On Tuesday August 11th there was an incident where a dog was stabbed on Center St. Thankfully the dog has survived his injuries but we are trying to locate who did this. There was an individual who saw the suspect with the knife in hand and gave a description of a male approx 60’s, grey hair, wearing a grey shirt and khaki shorts. The individual was on foot. We are asking individuals and businesses to check all security cameras and reach out to this department if you see someone matching this description on this date. This incident occurred at approx. 10am or a little before. 570-888-2233

For clarification it was reported that the dog was stabbed while being chained to the front porch.
