Let’s help Anthony !!!!, organized by Robert Scognamillo

Hello everyone,

We need your help!

Dispatchers are the first people you talk to when you call with a crisis. Even though dispatchers can't see what’s happening, they are the eyes and ears of emergency responders—our guiding angels who ensure that the right responders get to an emergency as fast as possible, and who keep responders safe as they help people in crisis.Dispatchers are those who are rarely seen but mostly heard. Our friend, coworker, and brother Anthony Magliocco is a 911 dispatcher for the Borough of Sayreville. To say working with Anthony is a pleasure is an understatement. His knowledge and calm demeanor makes our job infinitely easier. In times of crisis we rely on him and now he and his family need us!

Anthony was recently given a cancer diagnosis which even though being treated, will have lasting effects on him and his family.

We are asking you to please make a donation. Every dollar counts. Additionally, even if you are unable to make a donation, please forward this GoFundMe page to anyone or post to social media.

Get better Moog!

Our mission continues to be the health and safety of our community. That being said, it was with careful consideration with our membership and staff that we not be doing our Santa fundraiser this year. WE WILL be riding around our response area with Santa on the fire truck at some point in December. Please follow the page for updates on that date and time.

This was not an easy decision but the health of our members is one of the most important factors to providing the high level of community service that you deserve. Please be safe, be healthy, and wear a mask!

On behalf of our members and our brothers and sisters in blue of the Sayreville PBA, I would like to thank any and all that participated in or donated to the Battle of the Borough! Today was a great success and we were able to raise money for a great family. Although we didn’t win, we look forward to the rematch next year! See you then!

Members of the Sayreville PD and Sayreville FD fought a tough back and forth basketball game but ultimately the PD won the Battle of the Borough, 54-50. We were also able to raise over $7000 for the Pepin family. We would like to thank all our sponsors, everyone who attended, and our members and the FD lenders that assisted. We also wanted to give a special thank you to Tom Sheehan and Patrick Brennan who spear headed this event amd put a lot of time and effort into making this such a great event. #sayrevillestrong #sayrevillePBA #SayrevilleFD #Sayreville #knowtheglow #everettforthewin #fightlikearorygirl

Please join Sayreville PBA Local 98 in a “Battle of the Borough” Charity Basketball Game benefiting the Pepin Family of Sayreville and raising awareness for Retinoblastoma. We will be taking on the Borough’s Finest from the Sayreville Fire Department on March 23, 2019 at 2pm at the Sayreville War Memorial High School. There will be food, prizes and entertainment. Admission is $10 and children under 12 years old will be free.
Retinoblastoma is a rare cancer of the retina, affecting young children. It accounts for about 2% of all childhood cancers affecting about 200-300 children each year in the United States. 80% of the time, a parent or family member is the first to identify “the glow” in a child’s eye, signaling there is a problem.
Everett Pepin was diagnosed when he was just 15 days old and has been battling retinoblastoma most of his young life. After receiving chemotherapy treatment, his cancer is in remission and he is now 3 years old. However, the treatments have had adverse side effects and have left Everett with hearing loss in both ears as well as PTSD. Everett is a fun loving kid and the family coined the phrase, “Everett for the Win” for his braveness in fighting the disease.
Everett has two younger 11 month old twin sisters, Lorelai “Rory” and Autumn Pepin. Rory was diagnosed at 6 months old with retinoblastoma and also has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment. She has had six rounds of chemo and is tested once a month under anesthesia to check the cancer’s progress. Recently, Rory has received good news that her cancer is “stable” at this time. At such a young age, she has encouraged others to “Fight Like a Rory Girl”.
Autumn has not been diagnosed and the family is hopeful that she will not develop retinoblastoma. However, Autumn is not out of the woods yet. Doctors say she still has a 90% chance of developing the disease before her first birthday. She also continues to undergo testing once a month under anesthesia to make sure she is cancer free.
The proceeds from the “Battle of the Borough” will go directly to the Pepin Family to help offset the mounting costs associated with raising two children with cancer. We would also like to bring awareness to this disease and the “Know the Glow” campaign which educates parents on how to identify early childhood eye diseases. For those who are not able to attend the “Battle of the Borough”, a GoFundMe account has been set up. https://www.gofundme.com/the-pepin-family

I want to take a minute to thank Butch and Amanda from Rustoni’s pizza. Last week they made a donation of the proceeds from theirs sales of Super Bowl t-shirts to us. Against Butch’s request I’m writing this post! We here at Engine Co. would like to express our gratitude not only to him, his wife and his staff, but the generous patrons of his business that purchased shirts. From day one of his business, Butch has always welcomed us with open arms. There has been times later in the evening, when his business is closed we have called Butch and he without hesitation has open his doors and fired up the kitchen to feed us. They have even gone as far as to name items on the menu after some of our members. Butch and Amanda are great examples of the community we are proud to serve and we are lucky to call them friends! Thank you!

Matthew Winston - Friday, June 9th, 2017

It is with deep regret we announce the passing of Matthew Winston who was an active member of Sayreville Engine Co. #1. Matthew or as we knew him “Bevis” was 20+ year member of our fire company. If you knew Matt his personality was mesmerizing. His stories were that of legends, his jokes were sure to make you laugh and his patented Hawaiian shirts would always bring a smile to you face. Whether you knew Matt for years or just met him for the first time he made you feel like a friend. He was quick to say a kind word or share a drink when you needed it. Matt lived life to the fullest and that is how we will remember him. Along with being a member of our fire company, Matt was an employee of the Borough of Sayreville Parks Department. Matthew leaves behind his wife, two children, and several other family members. We ask you please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they move this tough time.

Matt, you truly have left us way too soon! Our firehouse will never be the same without you. We are honor to call you a friend and a brother. Rest in Peace Matt, we will take it from here!

It is with heavy hearts we share the news of the passing of a member of our extended firehouse family, Betty Borden. Betty was the grandmother to one of our ex-chiefs and she and her husband, Bud Borden, were staples at all firehouse events here in Sayreville. It is at times like these we are given a chance to reflect on the support system we are lucky to have. Betty, a Member of the ladies auxiliary, set the example for many of our significant others. Without their support at home we could not do this. Many times we take for granted their service and we forget to give them the true thanks they deserve. We here at Engine Co. #1 are lucky to have these women, two of which are Betty's granddaughters. Although we may not get around to thank you as much as we should, you are the reason for our success and words cannot express our thanks to you. Betty, may you rest in peace knowing that your girl will continue your legacy in our firehouse.

It is with deep regret that the members of the Marlboro Fire Department announce the passing of one of our Charter and Life Members of the Marlboro Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary Mrs. Betty Borden.

Pictured here is her husband one of our Ex-Chief's and Life Members Mr. Carlton "Bud" Borden. They were married for 64 years.

Betty was a very integral part of our Ladies Auxiliary back in the day and help shape our present Fire Department to one of the best around today. Her beautiful smile and warm love will be missed by all of us.

"Betty may you rest in eternal peace now and continue to watch over your husband Bud and all of us here at the Firehouse."
