With fall sports in full swing, we’re excited to finally see the completed Kippy Mitchell Sports Complex back in action!

It’s been a long road to get here. This project first went before voters in 2019 but was not approved. It returned to the ballot and was approved in 2021, with the turf replacement being completed in 2022. The track portion of the project was later put on hold, with construction finally beginning in June 2025. Work continued in phases, and the final track surface was completed this past July.

Along the way, teams practiced and competed on the surrounding grass fields or at facilities in neighboring towns. Home games were moved, schedules shifted, and some athletes celebrated senior nights and played their final “home” games away from home.

We’re incredibly thankful to the athletes, coaches, families, staff, and community for their patience and flexibility throughout the process. Here’s to many seasons without construction delays or schedule changes, and a facility everyone can enjoy for years to come!🤞❤️

We couldn’t have asked for a better summer night to bring the community together last Friday! It was so great seeing families and friends fill the High School Sports Complex for Summerfest 2026, playing games, checking out activities and vendors, grabbing noms from the food trucks, and catching performances from the Maine POPS Concert Band and BarFlys Band.

Public Safety Advisory – Confirmed Shark Sightings Near Pine Point Beach

The Scarborough Public Safety Team would like to inform the public of two confirmed shark sightings in local waters off Pine Point Beach. The reported sightings were in the area off the southern tip of Prouts Neck and near the mouth of the Scarborough River.

On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Scarborough's Marine Resource Officer received information regarding what appeared to be two juvenile great white sharks, each estimated to be approximately 6 to 8 feet in length, in the areas described above.

The information was relayed to the Marine Resource Officer by a shark expert with the New England Aquarium, who reviewed video footage submitted by a local recreational fisherman. Based on the available video, the expert advised that the animals appeared consistent with juvenile great white sharks. At this time, the sightings have been confirmed.

The Scarborough Public Safety Team is sharing this information to promote public awareness and encourage beachgoers, swimmers, surfers, paddlers, and boaters to remain vigilant while enjoying local waters. While shark encounters remain rare in Maine, the public is encouraged to use caution, avoid swimming near schools of bait fish or seals, and report any additional sightings to local authorities.
