If you’ve noticed an increased presence of Scarborough Fire apparatus throughout town this afternoon, there’s a reason.

A power outage affecting portions of Scarborough has kept our crews busy responding to a variety of incidents, including electrical hazards, fire alarm activations, stalled elevators, and a downed primary power line. At the same time, all three Scarborough ambulances have remained occupied responding to medical emergencies across town.

Since 8:00 a.m., Shift 3 firefighters and on-duty per-diem personnel have responded to 17 calls for service, with many of those incidents occurring this afternoon as a result of the outage.

You may also see fire apparatus from some of our neighboring mutual aid departments assisting with emergency calls while our crews remain committed to other active incidents. This is a normal part of our mutual aid system and helps ensure uninterrupted emergency services for our community.

As always, please stay away from any downed wires or damaged electrical equipment and report hazards to 911. We appreciate everyone’s patience as our firefighters, EMS providers, dispatchers, and mutual aid partners continue working to keep Scarborough safe.

Please join us in welcoming Deputy Chief Branden Walker to the Scarborough Fire Department. This past week, DC Walker was sworn in at the Public Safety Building in front of the on duty crew and fellow Chiefs of the SFD.

Deputy Chief Walker brings with him years of experience serving communities throughout Southern Maine and a proven commitment to excellence in the fire and EMS professions. As our new Deputy Chief of EMS, he will provide leadership for the department’s emergency medical services, overseeing EMS training, licensing, and the continued development of our providers.
