Taxpayer money should come with public accountability. My bill has passed in the Assembly, bringing local development corporations and similar government-affiliated nonprofits under open meetings and FOIL requirements for the first time.

My legislation to modernize oversight of Continuing Care Retirement Communities officially takes effect today! By consolidating authority under the Department of Health, we're cutting through years of duplicative, multi-agency red tape that made it difficult and expensive to open or operate a CCRC in New York so seniors can have more options for where they age.

Happy Pride Month! This month we celebrate our diversity and continue our work in creating a community where we can all thrive together, love honestly and openly, and celebrate one another regardless of our sexuality or identity.

I was proud to be recognized by Met Council at their Annual Legislative Breakfast this morning. As America’s largest Jewish charity fighting poverty, Met Council does vital work for vulnerable New Yorkers, and it was an honor to be in the room with so many dedicated leaders who share that commitment.

Jewish institutions across the state now have stronger protections. The buffer zone law that I helped pass this week creates a 50-foot perimeter around houses of worship and makes it a crime to interfere with access, with coverage explicitly extended to JCCs, yeshivas, and religious schools. I am proud to have played a role in getting this done.

As antisemitism and hate crimes continue to rise, houses of worship, religious schools, and Jewish community centers must be kept safe. Legislation just passed in the state budget adds protections for worshippers by creating a criminal penalty for individuals who, “within fifty feet from a place of religious worship, knowingly or intentionally engages in a course of conduct that places that individual in reasonable fear for their safety.” I was proud to successfully lead the negotiations for achieving these protections, shielding worshippers, students, and families from harassment and intimidation.

NYS has taken an important step to protect Jewish schools, community centers and all houses of worship from threats and intimidation. At a time when hate and antisemitism are on the rise, we must do everything we can to ensure that people are able to gather and worship safely and peacefully. I was proud to fight for and help negotiate this legislation in the state budget to strengthen protections for congregants and our communities.
