Today, members of the Scarsdale Police and supporters participated in the Scarsdale portion of The Law Enforcement Torch Run. This 56-leg relay brings together nearly 6,000 police and peace officers in a run to raise funds for the New York Special Olympics. The Torch Run is the Special Olympics’ largest grassroots fundraiser. Firefighters cheered on the Officers as they ran under the American flag suspended from L28. Great job!

Scarsdale assisted with pump operations training at the Career Fire Academy on Friday. Our two probationary firefighters, along with 38 other recruits, are learning how to determine pump discharge pressures by calculating the effects of various types of friction loss, elevation, and nozzle requirements. The calculations learned here set the foundation for providing adequate water streams to overcome a growing fire. Westchester County Department of Emergency Services

Firefighters stopped by the high school to support the Scarsdale Student Government’s carnival fundraiser. We had a great time meeting members of the community, giving tours of our ladder truck, and playing a few carnival games!

This morning, Scarsdale Fire Department members assisted the Parks, Recreation, and Conservation Department with their 52nd Annual 15K & 4M Runs. On-duty and off-duty members handed out water along Greenacres Avenue, while others eagerly greeted finishers underneath an American flag suspended by Ladder 28. Our firefighters had a great time cheering on runners and meeting so many of our residents! This past week, Scarsdale firefighters read to students of the Edgewood Elementary School. Firefighters chose fire service-related children’s books from a collection curated by the school’s librarian. These stories served as excellent ice breakers and prompted questions about fire safety and prevention. The students (and firefighters) had a great time and learned along the way! Thank you to Edgewood Elementary School for this opportunity. Scarsdale Inquirer Scarsdale Patch Scarsdale10583 Scarsdale, New York
