Our5th/6th grade Magnet students got hands-on with their Microbiomes unit by completing a unique f***l dissection lab, with samples made from play dough!

Students carefully dissected their samples and searched for different types of “bacteria,” represented by colorful beads, to determine what each sample’s microbiome consisted of. They then analyzed their findings to determine whether their sample represented a healthy or unhealthy microbiome.

To wrap up the investigation, students used their evidence to write scientific arguments explaining and supporting their conclusions.

Help us welcome our next new staff member, Mrs. Khalil! We are glad to have her at Campanelli as a paraprofessional, supporting one of our Campi Cougars! Get to know a little more about Mrs. Khalil below!

My name is Bilqees Khalil. I have a Bachelor of Commerce from Karachi University and a Teacher Certificate in early childhood education from Harper College. I have nearly twenty years of experience working with children, including about ten years in District 54.

I enjoy traveling, cooking, and reading health magazines. My favorite movie is 'Home Alone,' and I enjoy watching funny movies. I also like spending time outdoors in parks, walking or relaxing in nature. A fun fact is, I have visited nearly twelve countries.

I look forward to working with my colleagues this school year to try new things and help students get involved. I am excited to welcome students and support their learning.

I love Dr. Seuss’s quote: "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose." My favorite book is "The Namesake."

Alissa Wells will be teaching algebra to some of our Campi students. Here is a little about her:

I am entering my 14th year in District 54. I have spent 12 years teaching math at Mead Junior High and two years supporting new educators as a district instructional mentor, where I support our new teachers in the district.

Outside of school, I love spending time with my kids, horseback riding, going for long walks, and unwinding every night with my favorite show, Friends.

I am looking forward to being at Campi as Campi has such a homey feel, and I am so excited to be a part of such a great building! Above all, I feel so lucky to help our students be the best versions of themselves. Thank you for giving me the honor of being a part of their story!

We are excited to welcome Mrs. Umlauf to the Campi community! She is a graduate of Illinois State University, and brings 24 years of experience in education to our school.

Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her husband, her two daughters (19 and 13), and their dog. In her free time, she loves reading, knitting, exercising, and watching her kids play sports.

She enjoys a little bit of everything when it comes to books, movies, and TV shows, and she especially loves listening to country music!

A quote that inspires her is, “Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill.

As she begins this new school year, she is especially looking forward to getting to know the Campi community. We are so happy to have her join our Campi family!
