Shout out to the hundreds of D54 staff who are spending one full day during their second week of summer vacation attending the annual D54 Symposium today at Mead Jr. High.

And a big round of applause for the many staff members who led these learning opportunities today. Sessions ranged from executive functioning strategies to cultivating culture; from digital math tools to goal setting for multilingual learners; and everything in between.

During lunch, attendees heard from keynote speaker, teaching and leadership expert Tony Frontier, author of “Ai with Intention.” He spoke about how schools can thoughtfully integrate AI while keeping student learning, creativity, and human connection at the center of everything we do.

D54 community - your teachers, administrators and support staff are already gearing up for next year, looking for ways to teach, support and connect with your children.

The third trimester Whole Child Report Cards are now available on the District 54 parent portal, or by visiting families.sd54.org.

This report card offers a comprehensive overview of a student's progress, encompassing not only academic achievements but also their development in various social-emotional areas including extracurricular involvement and school attendance.

We encourage families to review the report card thoroughly and discuss their children's progress with them.

“It's been a pleasure serving District 54 in many positions,” Sandi said. “I truly enjoyed creating relationships with school staff, co-workers, students and families.”

In her next chapter, she plans to continue building her salon business, travel, volunteer for a cat rescue and be available for her grandchildren.

Although Barbara Hart has only worked in District 54 for four years, she said her time at Stevenson has given her joy, pride and happiness.

“The mom of one of our ASD students told me once, ‘My child has something to offer the world’ and I will never forget it,” she said. “It has been a privilege being in District 54.”

Amy Bouchard, a sixth-grade teacher at Hale Elementary School, has worked in District 54 for 32 years, including five years at Campanelli before coming to Hale. She has also been part of many district initiatives over the years, including PBIS, Math Task Force, Happiness Initiative, and many new curriculum adoptions.

"As a teacher I have always loved the build up of activities that lead up to the end of the year," she said. "I love to see the interaction between students and staff during our annual 6th grade vs the teachers kickball game. The kids love to compete against their current and former teachers."

"The other activity that is so meaningful to be a part of is our Last Day of School 6th Grade Clap Out. Sixth-graders parade through the hallways and all the students and staff are cheering for them. So many of the kids high-five or hug teachers that have truly impacted their lives. It's amazing to see what 7 years of Hale does to a child!"

In retirement, Amy plans to focus on family, health and travel, as well as spending time reading, gardening and finding new hobbies.

“The kids have taught me so much about life - I have learned patience and perseverance,” she said. “My co-workers are not just colleagues; they are like family. They have supported me throughout both my personal and professional experiences. I have made lifelong friends and we will continue with our Making Monday’s Marvelous Club (MMM).”

Debbie is looking forward to spending time with family, traveling and never working on a Monday.
