SCAP Film Fest: "Beyond the Bridge: A Solution to Homelessness" 🎬

This week, our team gathered to screen the powerful documentary "Beyond the Bridge," by filmmakers Don Sawyer and Tim Hashko. The film explores homelessness with honesty, humanity, and grace, going straight to the source of the Housing First model to show what really works.

What stayed with us: The exceptional interviews. The way scenery, narration, and personal stories were woven together. The balance of policy, history, and lived experience. And the humanity, shown with dignity and without shying away from hard truths.

The screening sparked meaningful conversation among our staff about how SCAP approaches homelessness with our customers, our community partners, and local government, and where we still have room to grow. Honest reflection like this is how we keep improving our work.

Our deep thanks to Don Sawyer and Tim Hashko for the courage to make this film and for allowing SCAP to share it with our team.

πŸŽ“ Congratulations, Leadership Capital Region Class of 2026!

It was wonderful to have our CEO, Addy Haberbush, speak at the Chamber's LCR Graduation last week. Addy shared a powerful message about what true leadership means:

It's not about having all the answers. It's about building relationships, fostering partnerships, listening to community needs, and bringing people together around a shared purpose.

Real and lasting change happens when we leverage our collective strengths. When people combine different skills, perspectives, experiences, and resources, they can solve problems more effectively -- just like the LCR Class of 2026 did with the Sojourn House Transformation Project.

We're especially proud that our own Director of Early Learning, Naomi Wood, was part of this outstanding cohort. Naomi's leadership and partnership throughout this project helped make the vision a reality.

Congratulations to all the LCR graduates! We look forward to seeing the impact you'll make in our community. 🌟

We're thrilled to announce that SCAP has been awarded $15,000 from the B'nai B'rith Gideon Foundation through the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region. This funding will directly support our Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Program, providing critical financial assistance to Schenectady households facing homelessness.

Thank you to the B'nai B'rith Gideon Foundation and CFGCR for believing in this work and investing in stable housing for our community's most vulnerable families. Together, we're making a real difference.

What a celebration! 🏑✨

Last Tuesday, we gathered to commemorate the completion of the Sojourn House Transformation Project, and what an incredible journey it's been. The Leadership Capital Region Class of 2026 didn't just complete a service project; they showed what's possible when leaders from different sectors unite around a shared purpose.

From the moment the LCR Class of 2026 chose Sojourn House, they brought energy, commitment, and heart to every aspect of this work. They painted walls, coordinated donations, landscaped the grounds, and built community partnerships. And yes... they truly earned the title: 🌟 Best Class Ever 🌟

We're grateful for the remarks from Assemblymember Angelo Santabarbara, Senator James Tedisco, Capital Region Chamber President and CEO Mark Eagan, and Joy Rodriguez of Arrow Bank, who all recognized the power of what we can achieve together.

But most importantly, we're grateful for the 45 leaders of the LCR Class of 2026 who showed up, rolled up their sleeves, and transformed a space where vulnerable families find safety, healing, and hope. The mothers and children who stay at Sojourn House now have a warm, welcoming home that reflects the dignity and care they deserve.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible: the LCR Class of 2026, our community partners, our donors, our volunteers, and the Capital Region Chamber. Together, we're proving that community impact happens when leadership meets action.

We're so grateful to the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region for their $15,000 grant to Project LAUNCH. This funding helps us provide mental health screenings, behavioral health services, and special education advocacy to families across Schenectady County who need it most.

In the past eight months alone, Project LAUNCH screened 150 individuals and supported 43 families navigating special education services. For families in our community where nearly 1 in 3 children live in poverty, these services make the difference between a child getting the support they need and falling through the cracks.

If you or a family you know needs help accessing mental health services or special education support, reach out. Project LAUNCH is here to help.

One week to go! 🏑

The Leadership Capital Region Class of 2026 is making a final push to reach their fundraising goal for the Sojourn House Transformation Project. They need about $1,000 more to complete the last few items and maximize the impact for the families we serve.

If you’ve been following this journey, please consider making a donation or sharing this with friends, family, and coworkers. Every dollar brings us closer to the finish lineβ€”and closer to creating a beautiful, welcoming home for mothers and children experiencing homelessness.
