🇺🇸 Happy Labor Day from the Schererville Fire Department! 🇺🇸

Labor Day is more than the unofficial end of summer. It is a time to recognize and honor the hardworking men and women whose dedication, skill, and determination have helped build and strengthen our communities.

Every day, people across our community get up and go to work—serving others, building businesses, teaching our children, caring for our families, maintaining our infrastructure, protecting our neighborhoods, and helping make our community a better place to call home.

This Labor Day weekend, we encourage everyone to take some well-deserved time to relax, enjoy time with family and friends, and remember the generations of American workers whose contributions have helped shape the country we know today.

🚒 SCHERERVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT – AUGUST UPDATE 🚑

August was a very busy month for the Schererville Fire Department. The severe storms tested our department and our crews, but our members remained ready and continued to respond to every incident and assist our residents throughout the storms.

We are very proud of the dedication and professionalism our crews demonstrated during a very demanding month. 💪🚒

📚 TRAINING
Our crews completed 480.1 hours of training during August. Continuous training helps ensure our firefighters and paramedics remain prepared to safely and effectively serve our community.

This Saturday, August 29th, join us at the Schererville 9/11 Memorial as we welcome the Bays to Brooklyn Bike Team during their cross-country Ride of Remembrance honoring the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

The riders are expected to arrive around 1:00 PM for a brief Ceremony of Remembrance and blessing for safe travels before continuing their journey to Merrillville and ultimately Ground Zero in New York.

9/11 REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY
The Town of Schererville invites the community to join us for our annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony as we honor and remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

25th Anniversary September 11th Remembrance Ceremony

This year’s ceremony will feature speakers who were on scene at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Together, we will remember the victims, honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, and pay tribute to the strength and resilience of our nation.

On Friday, September 11, 2026, riders will come together for the 25th Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Ride, honoring the fallen and remembering the heroes of September 11, 2001.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT – U.S. HWY 41 & MAIN STREET 🚨

Motorists are advised that numerous lane restrictions are now in effect at the intersection of U.S. HWY 41 and Main Street due to downed power lines.

Drivers are strongly encouraged to seek an alternate route and avoid the area if possible. These lane restrictions will remain in place until NIPSCO is able to repair and safely address the downed power lines.

Please slow down, use caution, and allow extra time if traveling through the area.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation while crews work to resolve the issue.

Due to power lines down in the area, there is significant traffic congestion in the area of US HWY 41 and Main Street. Others in town may be experiencing power outages as well as a result of this incident. NIPSCO has been made aware.

Be advised, there is a down power line South of 41 and Main Street. There are power outages throughout Schererville along 30 and 41.
