Lots of creativity happening in the ceramics studio!

Some students are at the wheels learning to center, pull, and shape their forms, while others are hand-building to bring their ideas to life.

Different processes, different challenges, and lots of problem-solving along the way. I love seeing the variety of work taking shape in the studio!

THE WORST IDEA
What happens when students are asked to solve a problem by coming up with the worst possible solution?

In Art Foundations, students are learning that creativity isn’t just about being able to draw—it’s about learning how to think creatively.

For our Worst Idea challenge, students intentionally designed ridiculous, ineffective, and unexpected solutions to a problem. But getting to that final idea required a lot more thinking than you might expect!

💡 Divergent Thinking — brainstorming lots of possibilities and pushing past the first, obvious ideas
🔀 Associative Thinking — combining their problem with completely random words to make unexpected connections
✏️ Iterative Sketching — developing several different versions of their ideas
💬 Peer Critique — getting feedback from classmates about which ideas had the most creative potential
🔎 Reflection & Refinement — choosing an idea and figuring out how to push it even further
🎨 Final Design — communicating the finished idea through detailed drawings, color, multiple viewpoints, labels, and annotations

Here’s a sneak peek of the Positivi-Tree currently being created by our Art for Therapy and Wellness 2 students!

Our Digital Art students kicked off their animation unit by creating stop motion animations using StickBots! Students explored movement and timing, one frame at a time, while learning the fundamentals of animation. These 8-second animations took about 50 photos to create.

Painting students explored visual storytelling by creating artworks that communicate narratives without words. Each piece challenged students to think deeply about how imagery alone can communicate powerful ideas.

Drawing 2 students explored creative self-portraits focused on narrative, symbolism, and personal identity. Students experimented with a variety of media choices to communicate mood and storytelling while also studying facial proportions and mathematical guidelines to improve realism and structure.
