It is ALWAYS ILLEGAL to burn ANYTHING within city limits. The ban being lifted only affects residents in the county.

The Burn Ban has been lifted at this time in Fayette County.

Please continue to use caution while burning and please contact the Fayette County Sheriffs Office if you intend to burn.

PSA

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office has been receiving numerous calls regarding scams this morning.

Several local banks are reporting that members are receiving scam phone calls, where the banks are allegedly calling and requesting that they wire transfer money to a new account because they have been hacked. The banks will not call you and have you do a transfer over the phone.

We have also received calls regarding the "Fayette County Civil Writs Division" with a deputy calling to say that you missed a court date and need to pay a fine over the phone. We do not have a civil writs division and the Sheriff's Office will never collect money over the phone.

Please check on your neighbors and elderly of the community to make sure they understand that this is a scam.
