On Tuesday, August 25, at approximately 10:40 pm, Officers stopped a silver Honda passenger car on IH-10 eastbound near Exit 674 for a traffic violation.

In the course of the stop, consent to search the vehicle was denied and K9 Semper was deployed for a free air sniff of the vehicle. K9 Semper gave a positive alert and a probable cause search was conducted.

THC and a loaded handgun were recovered. The driver, Damian Perez (22), of Live Oak, was arrested for Poss CS PG 2 >=1G

Question - School bus lights! When do folks have to stop and when can they keep going? If lights are on and in a parking lot waiting on kids to load do I stop? What about bus stop on 77? If I’m going opposite direction do I have to stop? Yes! Definitely school bus lights needs to be addressed!!

Answer - See photo. As far as parking lots, the majority of traffic laws cannot be enforced in a private parking lot/driveway. But we HIGHLY encourage you to STOP and not put anyone's life in danger.

Y'all had some great questions, most of which are fairly common. Below you'll find the answers and the corresponding traffic codes.

Can I “legally” use the fake exit off I-10 to county road 250 by cr 240?
No. If traffic is backed up on the interstate and a driver cuts across the grass or ditch to reach the frontage road, that constitutes a violation even if the maneuver can physically be made safely. Transportation Code 545.064 - Restricted Access.

If the School Zone lights are flashing but school is on a holiday break, will you still issue a ticket?
No. If lights are flashing, but school is not in session (spring break, Christmas break, other school holidays) you can follow the normal posted speed limit without violating any traffic laws.

At a light, If there is no cars coming, can I cross when i have the red?
No. Pedestrians must obey the applicable pedestrian-control signal. If the signal displays “DON’T WALK” or the upraised-hand symbol, a pedestrian may not start to cross the roadway. Transportation Code - 552.002 - Pedestrian Right-of-Way

Are you required to use your blinker when you are in a “turn only” lane?
In Texas, you are required to use your turn signal even when you are already in a designated “TURN ONLY” lane. There is actually a Texas case law on this issue (Wehring v. State) and the courts ruled there is no exception for turn lanes. Transportation Code - 545.104 - Signaling turns

Am I required to use a blinker if there is nobody to signal to?
Yes, you are required to signal. The law is not dependent on another person being present to see the signal. Transportation Code 545.104 - Signaling turns

Is it legal to pull into the middle of an intersection when you have a blinking yellow arrow to turn left?
The short answer is yes, it is legal. You may enter on a flashing yellow arrow, yield to oncoming traffic, and then complete your turn—even if the light changes while you're already lawfully in the intersection.
