August is HERE! 🎉

🦇 Up first this month we will be hosting a Night Hike at West Scio Preserve on Wednesday, August 12th, from 9:00-10:00pm. This event is a great way to get outside and see some of Michigan’s nocturnal creatures! We still have plenty of openings for this event and hope to see you there! We do suggest covering up and wearing bug spray if you plan to attend as the mosquitos are quite ravenous this time of year.
*This event is subject to weather and may be canceled due to a severe rain event. Please sign up at the Eventbrite to receive updates as they occur. Participants will receive an email within 24 hours of the event with any changes. Updates will also be available on our social media.

🦅 Our second event in August is the SOLD-OUT Birding Hike on Sunday, August 30th, from 9-10am at our Five Oaks Preserve. This event is a great opportunity to explore a newer property and (hopefully) see a plethora of different bird species! If you are signed up for this event, please keep an eye out for an email regarding the parking situation. We do not have a current parking lot for this site, but we will share meeting information closer to the event! Additionally, though the event is currently sold out, reservations may become available within a few days of the event. If you are wanting to attend, the best place to keep track of ticket openings is our Eventbrite or social medias!

Keep our wetlands clear of fishing line by utilizing our new fishing line disposal containers located at Sloan Preserve and Liberty Pond Nature Area! 🎣🗑️

Additionally, we added a boardwalk to West Scio Preserve! We hope to add more in the future across our preserves to improve our trails that get a little extra wet. 🌧️

🌳 Storms can leave behind more than puddles, downed trees are an unfortunate reality on many of our preserves. When multiple trees fall, trails can become blocked and create serious safety hazards. ⚠️

Thanks to the hard work of our Parks & Preserves crew over the past two days, the trails at West Scio Preserve have been cleared and are once again safe and ready for your next outdoor adventure! 🥾🌿

If you spot a downed tree during your visit, please let us know so our crew can respond as quickly as possible. 🪚

📍 Report it here: https://www.sciotownshipmi.gov/community/parks-preserves-and-pathways-department/reportaproblem
🪧 Or simply scan the QR code posted at any preserve kiosk for quick and easy access.

Thank you for helping us keep our preserves safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone! 💚
