After careful consideration of the recent lack of moisture and fuel conditions, the Linn County Fire Defense Board has decided to close backyard burning after sunset on Sunday night. Within the Scio Fire District's response area, you will still be able to have BBQs and campfires. For campfires, please only burn dry wood (no trash), have a water source on hand, and make sure the area is scraped clean down to bare dirt and lined with rocks or bricks to a maximum diameter of 3'. If you live in ODF's area (Rodgers Mountain, Larwood, Bilyeu Den), make sure to check their website for burn restrictions.

🛑 Backyard burning in Linn County will close on June 1st. 🛑

Burning conditions and regulations can change depending on weather, fire danger and air quality. Residents are encouraged to stay informed.

The Linn County Fire Defense Board is made up of local fire chiefs and chief officers who are authorized to make decision on behalf of their respective agencies.

There is no question that smoke detectors save lives. Industry experts recommend a smoke detector in every sleeping room and at least one in the common area of your home. Manufacturers recommend replacing smoke detectors after 10 years because the internals lose their sensitivity over time.

Thanks to a grant from the Oregon State Fire Marshal, the Scio Fire District is offering free smoke detectors to elderly, low-income, and disabled residents who live within the fire district's response area. Members of the fire district will recommend locations within your home to place smoke detectors and will install them as well. Maybe you already have smoke detectors but aren't sure they work or aren't sure of their age? Let us know on the form below and we'll check them out for you.

If you are interested in free smoke detectors and are elderly, low-income, or disabled, simply fill out this form and someone from the fire district will contact you. https://form.jotform.com/252245646264156 Don't like filling out forms, you can call our office at (503) 394-3000 M-F, 8am - 4pm.

At last night's board meeting, we recognized Ed and Waylon for their recent graduation from the Santiam Fire Training Academy with a badge pinning ceremony. These young men have spent most of their weekends over the past 5 months learning how to be firefighters. We thank them for their dedication and congratulate them on a job well done!

At 6pm tonight (Friday) during the car show on Main Street, the Scio Fire District volunteers will perform a vehicle extrication demonstration where they will cut apart a vehicle and extricate a couple victims from it using the Jaws of Life. This will be done in the parking lot of the Stop N Save. Hope to see you there.

The Scio Fire District is actively looking for new volunteers who are passionate about serving the community. When you volunteer, you will be joining a dedicated group of individuals who operate as a team and work together to solve some very complex problems. There are many aspects of a fire response program including structural firefighting, wildland firefighting, emergency medical response, motor vehicle collisions, public education, and fire investigation. All training is provided by the fire district and no experience is necessary.

Please check out these photos and watch this video. When you're ready to fill out an application, head over to our website at sciofire.org. And if you are still on the fence and want to talk to the chief, stop by our office in Scio or call (503) 394-3000.
