Water Main Work on Route 3A – Service Disruptions

Water main construction work on Route 3A will require temporary water service disruptions in certain areas while tie-ins are completed and existing services are transferred to the new water main.

The Town will be connecting existing services along Route 3A to the new replacement pipe while deactivating the old water main. Residents in affected areas are encouraged to take necessary precautions and monitor their water for possible discoloration.

If discoloration occurs, please allow the water to run until it clears before using it. Residents are also advised to check the water before doing laundry.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as this important infrastructure work is completed.

Weather-Dependent Schedule

Tuesday, September 1st:
Route 3A will be opened at Doctor's Hill. No interruption to water service is anticipated.

Wednesday, September 2nd:
Water service shutdown at Doctor's Hill, approximately 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, to complete the water main tie-in.

Thursday, September 3rd:
Paving work. No interruption to water service is anticipated.

Next Tuesday, September 8th:
Water service shutdown at Deer Common, approximately 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, to complete the water main tie-in.

Please note: All work is weather dependent, and the schedule may change.

MINOT BEACH 63

PEGGOTTY BEACH 51

SAND HILLS BEACH 10

LIGHT HOUSE BEACH LESS THAN 10

Scituate Beach Water Testing Results:

Under Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations for beaches, beach operators must sample bathing water at all public beaches for bacteria each week, using the Enterococcus indicator organism. Under that regulation, beach sampling is conducted weekly during the swim season, which is between the third week of June and Labor Day. The six beaches that are sampled include Humarock, Peggotty, Sand Hills, Egypt, Lighthouse and Minot. Test results cannot exceed a specified number of bacteria colonies per 100 mL sample of water. The maximum contaminant level is 104 Enterococci/100 mL of ocean water. If the results exceed 104 Enterococci/100 mL of ocean water, the beach must be closed to swimming after two consecutive unsatisfactory samples have been collected or if sampling cannot occur on the day following a single elevated level is detected.
