Coulterville CUSD No. 1 is seeking an exceptional educational leader to serve as our next PreK–12 Principal start FY 27. This position provides a unique opportunity to lead a small, close-knit rural school district where relationships, student success, and community pride matter deeply.
The successful candidate will serve as the primary instructional and operational leader for all grade levels PreK through 12th Grade, helping shape a safe, positive, and high-performing learning environment for all students and staff.

Position Overview
The PreK–12 Principal serves as the lead administrator for the district’s educational program and daily school operations. The Principal works closely with the Superintendent, faculty, staff, students, families, and community stakeholders to ensure educational excellence and continuous improvement across all grade levels.
This role requires a highly visible and engaged leader who values communication, accountability, innovation, and student-centered decision-making.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
● Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate administrative endorsement
● Demonstrated successful leadership experience in education
● Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
● Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, office team and community members
● Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional leadership, and school operations
● Commitment to fostering a positive school culture and climate

Primary Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
The Principal will:
● Lead the development and implementation of a high-quality PreK–12 instructional program
● Promote continuous school improvement and academic excellence
● Supervise curriculum development and alignment across grade levels
● Conduct teacher evaluations in accordance with Illinois law and Board policy
● Provide mentorship and instructional leadership to staff
● Utilize student achievement data to improve instructional practices and outcomes
Staff Supervision & Personnel Management
Responsibilities include:
● Supervising and evaluating certified and support staff
● Collaborating with the Superintendent on hiring, retention, and personnel recommendations
● Determining staff assignments and overseeing scheduling
● Leading staff meetings and professional development initiatives
● Building a collaborative, positive, and accountable staff culture
Student Discipline & School Climate
The Principal will:
● Establish and maintain consistent school-wide discipline expectations
● Promote a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment
● Ensure equitable enforcement of student policies and procedures
● Address major disciplinary matters in collaboration with the Superintendent
● Foster strong relationships with students and families
School Operations & Management
Key duties include:
● Overseeing daily school operations PreK–12
● Supervising grading systems, schedules, and reporting procedures
● Coordinating state assessments and standardized testing
● Monitoring compliance with state and accreditation requirements
● Overseeing student registration, scheduling, and graduation requirements
● Ensuring effective implementation of school handbooks and Board policies
Student Programs & Services
The Principal will oversee:
● Academic and support programs PreK–12
● Special education services
● Title programs and intervention services
● Student progress monitoring systems
● Intra-curricular and extracurricular activities
School Safety & Environment
Responsibilities include:
● Maintaining a safe and secure school environment
● Overseeing emergency procedures and drills
● Addressing facility and operational needs impacting learning and safety
● Maintaining confidentiality of student and staff information
Communication & Community Relations
The Principal serves as a visible leader and representative of the district by:
● Communicating school activities, successes, and needs
● Addressing parent concerns and community questions
● Building positive relationships with families and stakeholders
● Supporting transparency and trust within the school community
● Promoting pride in Coulterville CUSD No. 1
Responsibilities to the Superintendent & Board of Education
The Principal will:
● Maintain ongoing communication with the Superintendent
● Keep the Superintendent informed regarding significant school matters
● Provide reports and recommendations as requested
● Attend and participate in Board of Education meetings
● Implement and enforce Board policies and administrative procedures

The Principal may also:
● Coordinate graduation ceremonies, assemblies, and school-wide events
● Oversee student records, transcripts, and transfers

● Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
