The Scott City Fire Department is a team made up of members of the community that volunteer their time to protect the citizens of the City of Scott City and there property by providing Medical, Fire and Rescue services. Members also respond to mutual aid request to surrounding departments for fire and rescue assistance requests. Along with responding to incidents, members spend countless hours training, so that they can provide the highest level of service possible.

During this time, you may notice discolored water as naturally occurring sediment is stirred within the water lines. If this occurs, simply let your water run for a few minutes until it clears.

Residents may also experience a temporary drop in water pressure while nearby hydrants are being tested. This is normal and should be brief, as each hydrant is operated for only a short period.

These operations are an important part of ensuring our hydrants are ready and functioning properly to help protect our community in the event of an emergency.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE 08/11/2026
On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at approximately 08:29AM the Scott City Fire Department responded to a commercial first alarm structure fire in the 200 block of River Road in the Semo Port Authority outside of Scott City. During the response we were advised smoke was visible from the area, so the incident was upgraded to a working fire.

Upgrading the incident to a working fire automatically brought in mutual aid from the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, N.B.C. Fire Protection District, Chaffee Fire Department, Benton Department, & Gordonville Fire Protection District.

Upon arrival fire was in a commercial industrial manufacturing facility on the fourth floor of the building with employees evacuating the facility. Fire personnel gained access to the fourth floor by an exterior stairwell and established a water supply to the fourth floor utilizing Ladder 2841 as an aerial standpipe connection. Fire personnel then went into offensive mode on the fourth
floor. The Cape Girardeau Fire Department Ladder 4 was positioned to assess the roof and then positioned at the overhead service door on the fourth floor for a secondary emergency egress.

Additional manpower was requested from the Jackson Fire Department with an additional Engine from Cape Girardeau Fire Department due to the high temperatures and extensive overhaul required. During overhaul personnel had to dismantle some of the equipment/duct work to fully extinguish. The fire was contained to the fourth floor.

North Scott County Ambulance District provided EMS Standby during the incident. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Fire Cause Investigation determined the origin of the fire to be in a Hopper/Duct piping in the facility on the fourth floor. Once overhaul was complete the facility was turned back over to
maintenance personnel.

We would like to extend our gratitude to all our mutual aid partners that provided mutual aid along with the Scott City Police Department and Caseys General store in Scott City for providing
all fire personnel with lunch during the incident.
