Scottdale Mayor Lindy House Working with the community to strengthen the borough and police department that we love

The council now has a vacancy for the 2nd Ward representative position that needs to be filled within 30 days.

If you have lived in Scottdale Borough for at least a year, currently reside in 2nd ward, are 18 yrs old or older, are a registered voter and are interested to learn more about what being on council is like please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

There are many positive changes that have been happening within our borough and leadership these past few months. Come and help us as we all work towards making Scottdale a stronger, happier community.

Letters of interest must be turned into the borough no later than July 1st.

Also, keep in mind that this position would be finishing out the term of the representative that resigned. Her term ends January 2028. If you wished to serve longer then you would need to run for the position next year.

Very grateful to be working with community leaders who are so committed to doing everything they can to ensure that the best decisions and plans are made. Even giving up their family time and taking time off work to attend a conference to gain knowledge, learn about invaluable resources and networking.
Every little bit helps when running a borough.

Hi!

Just a reminder that our monthly council meeting is tomorrow at 6:30 at the borough building. The public is not only welcome but are invited and urged to attend.

We also have monthly committee meetings that are more informal and far easier to have a conversation about your concerns/ideas than just being able to make a public statement like at a council meeting.

Another option to ensure your concern is being heard is to contact your council members directly through email or myself thru calling, texting, emailing, coming to see me during my office hours or making an appointment with me for a time that works better for you.

While some of your borough leaders are on Facebook and do see some of your posts and comments, contacting us directly or coming to a meeting is the best way for us to get a clear understanding of how we can help you in the most productive way possible.

We're in these positions because we care. Genuinely. With nothing to gain for ourselves. We're here to serve this community.

Let's have a conversation and figure out how we can help you, get you answers and make things better.

Don't be afraid to reach out for anything.

That's what we're here for.

To serve you.

The first day and a half of this year's conference has gone great!

We divided and conquered for classes today.

This morning we got to hear from some state reps and senators about issues that are important to them as they also fielded questions. Next Councilwoman Shropp, Councilman Clawson and I got to hear about how local volunteer fire departments are struggling to stay afloat due to the astronomical cost of their basic equipment and vehicles. An engine now runs around the 1m-1.5m when just a few short years ago you could get the same one for 500k. It's uncertain times for everyone and other municipalities are having to join departments with neighboring communities to cut down on costs. They also shared ways to get special financing and grants to help with the outrageous costs of their vehicles.

I attended a class on community surveying and was so inspired to start implementing this more into our governmental and community decisions when possible. There's a lot more that goes into doing a successful survey than I would have expected. I learned a lot!

Lastly, I got to learn of the very successful junior council person programs that Grove City and Trafford have at their boroughs. Councilwoman Seaman and I were able to take good notes and get some ideas about ways that we can improve our program and hopefully draw more interest from young people. We're both very passionate about helping this program grow.

I followed the day up with a quick walk around the beautiful grounds of the capital building with my oldest son.

What a day. 😊

Just a little fun mixed with lots of education and borough resource finding at the PSAB conference at Hershey.
