On Friday, we celebrated Nebraska Wildflower Week with a planting at the North Platte NRD Greenhouse, made possible through Plant Nebraska!

Together, we planted a diverse mix of wildflowers, grasses, and sedges next to the greenhouse. In addition to providing valuable habitat for pollinators and wildlife, these plants will help reduce erosion in the area.

Species planted include:
- Beautiful mint
- Shortbeak sedge
- Prairie Mexican hat coneflower
- Basket of Gold
- Wild bergamot
- Big bluestem
- Swamp milkweed
- Blue Sage
- Switchgrass
- Shell leaf penstemon
- Narrow leaf coneflower
- Blue grama
- Beardtongue
- Primrose
- False Indigo

Thank you to Plant Nebraska and everyone who helped with the planting. We’re looking forward to seeing all the plants establish, bloom, and support wildlife and the landscape!

Join us for Botany for Gardeners, a hands-on class designed for gardeners and plant enthusiasts who want to learn more about how plants work.

Led by Stacy Adams, UNL Professor of Horticulture, this beginner-friendly workshop will include flower dissection, practical botany instruction, and plenty of opportunities to explore the science behind the plants you love.

The North Platte NRD mailed out the annual Chemigation Permits in March. These permits must be signed, dated, and returned to our office with the correct payment amount no later than June 1, 2026. Even if you no longer are chemigating, you need to fill out the permit with last year’s chemicals and return the document to our office. Inspections will start after June 1st. If you are chemigating and did not receive a permit for 2026, please call our office and talk to Terry, Jody, or Ethan at 308-632-2749.

Volunteer Planting & Arboretum Tour — North Platte NRD, Scottsbluff | 10–11:30 a.m.
Volunteer sign-up required

Guided Wildflower Hike — Scotts Bluff National Monument, Gering | 2–4 p.m.

PlantNebraska Members & Friends Gathering — Papa Moon Headquarters, Scottsbluff | 6:30–9 p.m.
FREE, but registration required

Saturday, June 6
Plant Sale — Community Ever Green House, Gering | 8:30–11:30 a.m.

Riverside Discovery Center Arboretum Celebration — Scottsbluff | 10:30 a.m.

Additional events will also take place in Chadron and Harrison during the week.
