The threat of severe weather in the northeastern U.S. today is a good reminder to think about how to stay safe while attending outdoor events when storms threaten.

Don’t let lightning catch you off guard.

⚡Follow the 30-minute rule: wait at least half an hour after you see lightning or hear thunder before heading back outside.

🌡️🔥 HEAT SAFETY REMINDER 🔥🌡️

Extreme heat can be dangerous and even deadly if proper precautions are not taken.

As temperatures rise, remember these simple heat safety tips:

💧 Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

👕 Dress Smart
Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.

❄️ Stay Cool
Spend time in air-conditioned buildings when possible and take frequent breaks in the shade.

🚗 Never Leave People or Pets in Vehicles
Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise to deadly levels within minutes.

🤝 Check on Others
Pay special attention to older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and those with medical conditions.

⚠️ Know the Signs of Heat Illness:

🟠 Heat Exhaustion
• Heavy sweating
• Weakness
• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Headache

🔴 Heat Stroke (Medical Emergency)
• High body temperature
• Confusion
• Loss of consciousness
• Hot, red skin

📞 Call 911 immediately if you suspect heat stroke.

Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly. Take precautions now to protect yourself, your family, and your neighbors.
