Gilbert Police Department has officially earned reaccreditation through the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ALEAP), and our 911 Communications Center has received its first‑ever Emergency Communications Center (ECC) Accreditation.

These achievements highlight the department’s ongoing commitment to excellence, professionalism, and the highest standards in public safety.

On July 14, 2026, at the Arizona Association Chiefs of Police Summit in Flagstaff, the Tonto Apache Police Department earned accreditation through the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ALEAP), marking a significant milestone for the agency. The Tonto Apache Police Department is the second tribal agency in Arizona and the fourth in the nation to achieve a form of accreditation.

The ALEAP accreditation process required the department to undergo a comprehensive review of its policies, procedures, and operations. This rigorous process aims to enhance public trust, ensure operational excellence, and advance the quality of law enforcement services provided to the community.

Chief Tanakeyowma and the Tonto Apache Police Department remain committed to ALEAP's high standards by regularly assessing and improving operations. The department will renew accreditation every four years and consistently meet established standards to provide the highest level of service to the Tonto Apache Community and surrounding areas.

The commitment of Chairman Calvin Johnson and the Tribal Council to the professional operation of the police department is essential to achieving this goal for the community and its members.
