Join us for the Salt River Elementary Halloween Fun Run on Wednesday, October 28 from 9-10a.m. at the SRES Courtyard. 🎃 Dress comfortably & wear your sneakers & SPOOKY SOCKS! 👟🧦👻Students begin their run at the intersection of Highland Avenue & Center Street; they will run down Highland, turn around at Country Club, then end back at Center Street.

🚸NEIGHBORHOOD REMINDER 🚸
During the Fun Run, the Salt River Police Department will close off Highland Avenue from Center Street to Country Club Drive. Education staff, student families, and Community members are invited to cheer on the runners along Highland Avenue!

🚧 INTERSECTION CLOSURE - CAMELBACK ROAD AT CENTER STREET
📅 WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21 TO FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2026

The Salt River Public Works Department will close the intersection of Camelback Road and Center Street from Wednesday, October 21, through Friday, October 30, 2026. This closure is part of the Mesquite Trails project.

Detour signs will be posted to guide motorists to Country Club for access to the school and to Mesa Drive for access along Camelback Road.

Accelerated Learning Academy students visit the Scottsdale Community College Music Department! 🎼🎸🎹

Eleven students participated in the SCC visit, where they had an opportunity to explore the Piano Lab, Recital Hall, and performance practice areas.🏫 Over the past several months, ALA staff have been working to develop a partnership with SCC that could provide ALA students with the opportunity to take Piano and/or Guitar college courses through Concurrent Enrollment. 🤝The next steps are to finalize student commitments and begin the enrollment process. ✅ How exciting! 🎶

Children and their families got a 👻head start👻 on trick-or-treating at today’s Goodie Gathering at the Early Childhood Education Center🎃 A huge SAPÉ to all the staff and partner organizations who made this event so fun and joyful, despite having to shift everything indoors because of the strong winds💨🍃

Thank you to our Salt River Schools Custodial Supervisor, Travis Cuch, who stepped in to help a student suffering from a medical emergency. Travis’s quick response, care and compassion made a momentous difference. We are immensely grateful for Travis who went above and beyond to make sure our students are safe and cared for. 💙

A Hero in the Hallway 🏫

It was a regular Tuesday morning in August for Salt River Schools Custodial Supervisor Travis Cuch. He got in his truck at home, drove to work at the Accelerated Learning Academy and was ready for the workday. A new school year had just started, and with that came a new crop of students with their own personalities, stories and interests.

On that morning, Cuch was making his school building rounds near the art classroom. He was cleaning the campus and tidying up one of the nearby classrooms, something he’s been doing for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community for nearly a decade.

“I was just doing my daily thing, dusting cobwebs, checking areas and windowsills. I was minding my business, listening to my music,” Cuch recalled.

Then, in the blink of an eye, everything changed.
