My heart breaks for the families affected by the tragic terrorist shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, on December 14th, where two gunmen opened fire at a Hanukkah celebration, killing 15 innocent people and injuring many more. As someone who lived and studied in Australia, I have a deep love for the country and its people. But during my time there, I saw firsthand how strict gun laws—some of the toughest in the world—don't stop evil. Bar fights often escalated to knives and fists, and I experienced that chaos up close. Yet, bad actors still got guns, leading to this horrific massacre despite Australia's near-total ban.
We witnessed a true hero, Ahmed al Ahmed, tackle one of the gunmen in a selfless act that saved lives—but at great personal risk. Imagine if responsible, trained citizens could have responded faster to protect the innocent. Yesterday, I had the privilege of completing 3 hours of intensive fi****ms training with Dominion Defense here in Arizona. Even as someone who's handled guns before, it was eye-opening, building my confidence and respect for safe, responsible use to defend my family and community.
In America, especially Arizona's District 1, we face real threats from Mexican cartels flooding our streets with fentanyl and violence. Alarmingly, an estimated 300,000 American children are at risk of or victimized by s*x trafficking each year. We can't afford stricter gun laws that disarm law-abiding folks while criminals ignore them. Instead, we need more courageous, God-fearing patriots getting trained to protect our loved ones.
As your next Congressman, I'll fight for strong background checks on all gun buyers to keep weapons out of the wrong hands, while fiercely protecting Second Amendment rights for responsible citizens. We'll support police, crack down on traffickers, and expand addiction treatment to make our communities safer.
Let's unite against evil—join me in restoring common sense to Washington.
