25 students from the Allied Health and Pre Nursing pathways and seniors that were very interested in pursing a pathway in the medical field attended the SKYCTC Future Healthcare Heros Camp on Tuesday, March 10.
Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College Allied Health and Nursing Programs hosted the one day “Future Healthcare Heroes” Camp at their main campus. The purpose of the camp is to allow high school students to experience firsthand what a career in an Allied Health or Nursing program involves.
Rotations for the students included Nursing, Radiography, Respiratory Therapy, Surgical Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Healthcare Partners and Exploring Biological Sciences. Students experienced hands-on activities within each rotation.
Students also learned information about the requirements to apply to each of these programs. This information included the pre-requisite courses for each program and how students can obtain those pre-requisites while still in high school by taking dual credit courses. Obtaining the pre-requisites courses while in high school will allow them to apply and enter an Allied Health and Nursing program sooner.
