Miss Dynamite Sign

Over the last 6 months, we’ve heard from so many of you wanting to save and restore the iconic Miss Dynamite sign. We listened! The Commission has formed a dedicated committee of local volunteers to lead the project.

Meet our dedicated volunteer team: Jay Holland, Misty Hendrix, Jennifer Woods, Michael Clark, and Ada Beth Oliver.

Here’s the latest updates:
-First Meeting: Held 3 weeks ago!
-Funding: We already have a generous $1,000 pledge to kick things off, and a t-shirt fundraiser is in the works!
-Next Steps: Establish and secure permission from the property owner so we can partner with them, the shopping center owners, and renters to make this a true community project.
-Current Goals: Restore the sign to Mr. Hale's original design, and clean Miss Dynamite's monument.
-Future Goals: Historic marker, add more landscaping, and maybe even a Miss Dynamite statue!
-Thank You: A massive shout-out to Steve Sloan for already updating the landscaping in front of the sign at no cost!

Drum roll, please! 🥁

We are beyond excited to announce that we are receiving a William G. Pomeroy Patriot burial marker... wait, make that TWO!

We aren't revealing whose names are on them just yet. We want to wait until the second marker arrives so we can celebrate both at the same time. Here's a hint: one is headed into the city, and one is going to the county!

This was a partnership with the City of Scottsville Historic Preservation Commission, the Allen County Historical Museum & Genealogical, the Patrick Gilmore DAR and the Kentucky SAR. We never dreamed we’d get two in one year!

And a huge shout out to Stuart Martin with the Kentucky SAR for helping us with the grants, and to the William G. Pomeroy Foundation for these incredible gifts.

From the Porch to the Stage Come Celebrate Kentucky's Musical Past and Present with the Scottsville Conservatory

Long before Nashville’s neon signs began to glow, the heartbeat of American music was already echoing through the rolling hills and holler-sides of the Bluegrass State. Kentucky’s musical history is rich and vibrant, from the mournful wail of Appalachian folk, the deep-seated soul of African American blues, the uplifting harmonies of religious spirituals, and the high-lonesome sound of bluegrass born right here in our state.

Right here in Allen County, that musical soil runs especially deep. From the soul-stirring southern gospel harmonies that once echoed through the historic 1897 Tabernacle hosting the Allen County Singing Conventions, to the twang of early rockabilly pioneers like Lattie Moore—the local theater-worker-turned-1950s-hitmaker behind "Juke Joint Johnny"—our community has always punched well above its weight in music history. We are the home of country music royalty like the late, legendary Nashville songwriter and producer Norro Wilson, whose pen helped shape the careers of legends like George Jones, Tammy Wynette, and Shania Twain.

Today, that torch is carried proudly by institutions like the Allen County-Scottsville Arts Council—bringing incredible concerts, programs, community events, to downtown’s Historic Lyric Theater—and the Scottsville Conservatory. Founded in 2006 by local musician and band leader John M. "Johnny" Thompson, the Conservatory and its independent label, Farm-Out! Records, have spent nearly two decades serving as South Central Kentucky’s premier hub for artist development, professional recording, and unforgettable community showcases.
