Overview:

As a Parachute Rigger, you’ll ensure the safety of every paratrooper you work with. You’ll inspect, test, and pack parachutes, their extraction and release systems, and all the associated components of the parachute system. You’ll be responsible for the safety and repair of all parachute equipment before, during, and after an airdrop operation. You’ll be responsible for assembling rigging components and securing all the supplies in the aircraft.

Overview:

Horizontal construction engineers use bulldozers, cranes, graders and other heavy equipment to move tons of earth and material to complete construction projects for the Army.

They are also responsible for operating tractors with dozer attachments, scoop loaders, backhoe loaders, hydraulic excavators, motorized graders and scrapers.

Job Duties:

- Analyze the information on grade stakes and placing them
- Drive bulldozers, roadgraders and other heavy equipment to level earth
- Clear, grub, strip, excavate, backfill, stockpile and push scraper with tractor crawler
- Cut and spread fill material with scraper
- Transport heavy construction equipment with tractor-trailer
- Assist in performance of combat engineer missions

Training:

Job training for horizontal construction engineer requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and nine weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field with on-the-job instructions.

The allied trade specialist is primarily responsible for supervising and performing the fabrication, repair and modification of metallic and nonmetallic parts. They operate lathes, drill presses, grinders and other machine shop equipment.

Job Duties:

•Fabricate, repair, and modify metallic and nonmetallic parts

•Utilize such machines as engine lathes, utility grinders, power cutoff saws, hydraulic presses, drill presses, oxyacetylene, electric arc, inert gas welding machines and their associated attachments, accessories and tools

The automated logistical specialist is primarily responsible for supervising and performing management or warehouse functions in order to maintain equipment records and parts.

Job Duties

- Establish and maintain stock records and other documents such as inventory, material control, accounting and supply reports
- Review and verify quantities received against bills of contracts, purchase requests and shipping documents
- Unload, unpack, count, segregate, palletize and store incoming supplies and equipment
- Construct bins, shelving and other storage aids
- Simplify and standardize the collection and use of maintenance data
- Raise the quality and accuracy of performance, cost and parts data through improved maintenance management

Training:

Overview:

Special Forces candidates are given the opportunity to become a member of one of the most highly skilled combat forces in the world. They must complete and endure the extensive mental/physical training in order to join the Army elite.

Job Duties:

There are four entry-level Special Forces Military Occupational Specialties. Your specialty will be decided on your background, aptitude and the needs of the Army:
Special Forces weapons sergeants: capable of using a wide variety of light/heavy infantry weapons and tactics

- Special Forces engineer sergeants: specialists in a wide range of disciplines such as construction, demolition and Logistical operations
- Special Forces medical sergeants: considered to be the finest first-response/trauma medical technicians in the world
- Special Forces communications sergeants: operate every kind of communications gear, from encrypted satellite communications systems to UHF/VFH systems

Requirements:

Those who want to serve must first take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, a series of tests that helps you better understand your strengths and identify which Army jobs are best for you.

Training:

Special Forces candidates attend Infantry One Station Unit Training, which combines Army Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training in a 22-week course.

Upon graduation, Special Forces Candidates will attend Airborne Training, followed by a 4-week Special Forces Preparation Course and the Special Forces Assessment and Selection program. This program allows Special Forces an opportunity to assess each Soldier’s capabilities by testing his physical, emotional and mental stamina.

If the recruit passes, he moves on to the Special Forces Qualification Course to develop the necessary skills of a Special Forces Soldier. The course is currently divided into the following:

- Individual Skills Development: 14 weeks of training in common skills, land navigation, tactics, MOS Qualification, and the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) course
- Skills Application and Collective Training: 11 weeks of training in Special Operations, Direct Action, Isolation, Air Operations and Unconventional Warfare classes culminating in the arduous Robin Sage exercise
- Language and Cultural Training: 24 weeks of classroom and practice exercises designed to educate the Special Forces Soldier
- Military Free Fall (MFF) School: 4 weeks of training at the infamous Yuma Proving Grounds, Arizona to qualify Special Forces Soldiers as MFF Parachutists

*Language Training: Languages are assigned in relation to the scores from the Defense Language Aptitude Battery test

The technical engineer supervises or participates in construction site development in areas such as technical investigation, surveys, drafts and construction plans/specifications. They conduct land surveys, make maps and prepare detailed plans for construction projects.

Job Duties:

- Perform field and laboratory tests on construction materials, surveys and drafts
- Draw topographic maps and charts using Computer Aided Drafting systems and software
- Conduct geodetic and construction surveys and results utilizing Automated Integrated Survey Instruments and Global Positioning Survey Technology

A cryptologic linguist is primarily responsible for identifying foreign communications using signals equipment. Their role is crucial as the nation’s defense depends largely on information that comes from foreign languages.
Job Duties:

Identifying and analyzing foreign communications
Recognize changes in transmission modes and tip the appropriate authority
Provide translation expertise to analysts
Provide transcriptions and translations from foreign communications

Requirements:

Those who want to serve must first take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, a series of tests that helps the Army better understand your strengths and identify which Army jobs are best for you. In addition to the ASVAB, the Army uses the Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB) to evaluate how well a native English speaker can learn a new language. Your score on the DLAB determines the level of difficulty for language training.
Training:

Job training for a cryptologic analyst requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and three to 52 weeks of Advanced Individual Training with on-the-job instruction. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and in the field.

Soldiers who aren’t fluent in a foreign language will attend training at the Defense Language Institute for six to 18 months prior to attending Advanced Individual Training.

Some of the skills you’ll learn are:

Identifying foreign communications from an assigned geographic area
Analyzing foreign communications to support missions
Procedures for handling classified information and preparing reports
