Center for Community Leadership and Nonprofit Excellence

Center for Community Leadership and Nonprofit Excellence Through the Center, the Foundation forges partnerships to provide and deliver these initiatives.

The Center was established by The Scranton Area Community Foundation to serve organizational capacity building needs of nonprofits in the Lackawanna County region. The Center for Community Leadership and Nonprofit Excellence was established by the Scranton Area Community Foundation (SAF) in 2012 to serve the organizational and infrastructure capacity building needs of the nonprofit community in La

ckawanna County. SAF has realized that in addition to providing funding to help nonprofits manage the projects and programs that enhance the quality of life in Northeastern PA, they also need the programs, training, and related technical assistance to help them meet their critical missions more effectively. Through the Center, the Foundation keeps a close connection on the current needs of the nonprofit community and responds with programs and technical assistance to meet these needs. To date, topic areas which have been provided through the Center for Community Leadership & Nonprofit Excellence include a large scale Strategic Planning initiative for 25 nonprofit organizations; as well as seminars and discussion topics on Board Development; Financial Reporting for Nonprofit Organizations; Connecting with the Community Reinvestment Act; The American Tradition of Philanthropy; and others. Partnerships have included and/or are currently including the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia; The Philadelphia Foundation; Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO); Nonprofit Community & Assistance Center (NCAC); The Philanthropy Roundtable; The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP); The Schemel Forum at the University of Scranton; and others.

Last week, 40 nonprofit professionals came together for an interactive training on data, outcomes, and storytelling led by national speaker Laurel Molloy. 🌟

The session focused on how nonprofits can connect their impact to the messages they share with donors, making grant proposals, reports, and pitches more compelling. One key takeaway: this work is most effective when fundraising, communications, program, and data staff work together.

Panelists Lori Ryan (Outreach Center for Community Resources), Jim Brogna (Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)), and Alison Woody (Food Allergy Research & Education), shared real perspectives on why telling your organization's story is everyone's job.

Don't miss future trainings at safdn.org/events-calendar!
