The Aging in Place program at NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania, funded in part by the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging & Pennsylvania Department of Aging provides homeowners age 60 and above with services that focus on assisting them to continue living safely and with dignity in their home and community. Through the program, NeighborWorks collaborates with human services organizations to evaluate individual needs and provide small home repairs, critical safety modifications and community services specific to each homeowner’s lifestyle to preserve their home and their independence. Surveys with clients show they’re mentally and physically healthier, feel safer at home, and engage with their family and friends more.

Information about our 2026 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is below. Once again, distribution will be in-person. If you are eligible to receive the vouchers and cannot attend a distribution event, a proxy can pick up the vouchers for you, with an already signed form. If you need a proxy form, visit www.lackawannaaging.org/farmers-market-vouchers to print one or call 570-963-6740 to have one mailed to you.

Did you know that you can receive a meal at your nearest Senior Community Center? Check out the menu for June!

Our Senior Community Centers offer lighter fare meals and/or hot meals for the week. Meals can be eaten in the center or taken home for you to enjoy, once you complete a nutrition assessment! Already a participant? Call your center of choice at least a day or two in advance to reserve your meal. There is a recommended $2 donation per meal, if you are able.

Age Friendly Lackawanna launched Dementia Friendly Dining late last year. Three restaurants trained their staff to become ‘Dementia Friendly’ restaurants. The program aims to support caregivers and their loved ones with dementia while they are out to eat.
