On Tuesday, I requested a list from both the city and American Water identifying which storm drains are owned and maintained by each. Since the city sold the Sewer Authority to American Water, there does not appear to be a clear or publicly available breakdown of ownership responsibilities.

Over the last several weeks, I have received numerous photos and complaints from residents regarding blocked drains across the city. Residents deserve to know who is responsible for maintaining these drains so issues can be addressed promptly with the correct agency.

We need a list of ownership responsibilities so both the city and American Water can be held accountable for properly maintaining our infrastructure.

Yesterday, I attended the annual Armed Forces Day Parade. We owe a great deal of gratitude and appreciation to our brave men and women of the Armed Forces. Thank you for your service, your courage and your dedication to keeping our nation safe! 🇺🇸

Veterans, marching bands, military organizations, and community groups filled the streets of downtown Scranton Saturday as the annual Northeastern Pennsylvania

In the last two weeks, after hearing from frustrated residents of the neighborhood, I’ve raised concerns about the ongoing Fawnwood stormwater project.

On Tuesday, I presented a slideshow with photos showing the stormwater issues and the changes made to the original plans. Residents were informed that the pipe would run the entire way through the project area. But now, portions have reportedly been removed from the plan, leaving sections open and exposed.

In my opinion, this creates both a drainage concern, as well as a significant safety issue in the neighborhood.

Attached are the photos I presented Tuesday, along with updated pictures after last night’s storm. The flooding and erosion seen after just one storm further demonstrates why this project needs to be completed the way it was originally listed and promised to residents.

These homeowners have dealt with these issues for years and deserve a long-term solution done properly the first time.

After several weeks of requesting a meeting, the administration has agreed to meet with me regarding the ambulance service issue. I appreciate their willingness to sit down and discuss this important matter. I look forward to hearing their perspective and any plans they may have moving forward.

This is a critical public safety issue that requires transparency, open communication and meaningful discussion. Residents deserve clear answers about the future of EMS services in our city.

At Tuesday’s meeting, I raised concerns regarding changes made to the Fawnwood stormwater project after hearing from frustrated residents in the neighborhood.

Residents were originally told the pipe would run the entire way through the project area, but now portions have reportedly been removed from the plan without clear communication. Neighbors are concerned that not completing the project properly now could lead to future flooding, erosion, safety issues and likely higher costs later.

These residents have dealt with stormwater problems for years and deserve a solution that is done right the first time. I will continue pushing for answers and a review of whether the project can still be completed as originally planned.

Last Sunday, I had the opportunity to attend Scranton’s 160th Birthday Celebration. I want to thank the administration for putting together a great event for the community. Also, I’d like to extend my appreciation to the Everhart Museum for being a fantastic host.

Over the last few weeks, I have expressed my concern that the City does not have a dedicated ambulance service. I asked the administration to put their concerns about contracting with a private provider in writing. I also requested a meeting to discuss the issue. Both requests were ignored.

On Tuesday, I called for the Mayor and the Fire Chief to attend a City Council caucus so this matter can be discussed in a public setting where residents can hear the facts and understand the if the city has a plan.

Over the last few years, there’s been ongoing discussion about having a dedicated ambulance service for the City of Scranton.

Recently, the administration raised concerns about entering into an agreement with a private ambulance company which has offered to serve as the city’s primary provider at no cost. Last week, I asked that those concerns be put in writing so Council, and the public, could understand the reasoning.

On Tuesday, they refused.

They suggested only the Public Safety Committee meet with the Fire Chief to be “educated” on the issue rather than release information to the public.

Residents deserve transparency and answers. I’ll keep pushing to make sure this conversation happens in the open and not behind closed doors.

This week, I expressed my disappointment and concern with the lack of communication from the administration. Multiple emails that I sent went unanswered for days. I wasn’t able to have a simple, short phone call to ask important questions about the budget without challenges. If a member of City Council has to jump through these hoops, I could only imagine the frustration of our citizens in their attempts to access our government.

When City Council is asking questions, it has a vital purpose. Part of our job is to review the numbers, provide oversight and make informed decisions on behalf of taxpayers. Open communication between Council and the administration is vital for good government.

The people of Scranton deserve a government that is responsive, transparent and willing to work together. I’ll continue asking the tough questions, demanding answers and seeking accountability for you.
