TENURE & RETIREMENT RECOGNITIONS
NS Board Of Education Along with Administration Recognizes Tenured Teachers and Says Farewell to Those Retiring

The North Shore High School theatre was filled with family, friends and colleagues as the Board of Education, administration, and principals recognized teachers, administrators, and staff for tenure and retirement at the June 11, 2026, meeting.

Congratulations go out to the following tenured teachers and administrators including Lauren DeLuca (HS Math), Hailey Heller (MS Math), Tori Kalberer (MS ENL), Samantha Malis (SC Social Worker), Maram Mabrouk (MS Assistant Principal), Megan McCormack (SC Principal), and James Pappas (Assistant Superintendent for Business).

On behalf of the Board of Education the following employees were recognized and thanked for approximately their 413 years of service to our students and North Shore families. Best of luck in your future retirement including Jean Buckel Betzios (Nurse Coordinator) 23 years), Palmira Carrabs (Food Service) 26 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Ciampi (Secretary to Superintendent) 46 years, Arlene Fern (Special Education Teacher) 26 years), Janet Goldberg (SWES Teacher) 29 years, Barbra Greggo (Classroom Teacher) 9 years, Patricia Gromling (Teacher Aide) 27 years, Michele Hall (Transportation Supervisor) 19 years, Debra Henneberger (Reading Teacher) 22 years, Robert Kemp (Custodian) 20 years, Fred Lange (Custodian) 35 years, Carolyn McIntyre (Reading Teacher) 11 years, Liz Mazzocchi (Teacher Aide) 25 years, Sharon Richmond (Classroom Teacher) 20 years, Charles Wankel (Math Teacher) 23 years, Tina Whyte (Classroom Teacher) 20 years, and Janice Wolin (Classroom Teacher) 32 years. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your dedication to our schools and community.

Additionally, the Board of Education presented Superintendent Dr. Christopher Zublionis’ with a gift and thanked him for his 17 years of Service to the North Shore Schools. Dr. Zublionis will be leaving June 30, 2026, to be the Superintendent of the Plainedge Public School District. We wish Dr. Z and all the faculty and staff the best of luck in their future endeavors!

2026 ELEMENTARY STEAM FAIR
K-5 North Shore STEAM Fair

On June 1, 2026, elementary students in grades K-5 participated in the 2026 North Shore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) Fair at North Shore Middle School. The theme was “Future Innovators: Solving Problems for a Better World.”

For months, many elementary students created original STEAM projects involving innovation, creative and critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills (SVO’s). During the STEAM Fair, they had the opportunity to present their unique projects to North Shore High School science research students who acted as the judges. The K-5 students happily received medals for their hard work, dedication, and love of science!

But that’s not all! Many activities and events took place for the elementary students to try and enjoy including:
- Animal Meet and Greet led by the Science Museum of Long Island and sponsored by the Sea Cliff PCA
- Aerodynamics organized by Mad Science sponsored by the Glen Head PTO
- Fossils activity directed by the Center for Science Teaching and Learning sponsored by the Glenwood Landing SCA
- Mood Mixer facilitated by the Sea Cliff PCA
- Battle Bots run by HS students
- Physics Demos led by HS students
- Slime-making run by HS students
- Roller Coaster Tubes organized by HS students
- Dot and Dash Robots led by HS students
- FTC Robot run by the Robotics team and teachers
- Make & Take Flashlight taught by HS teachers and students
- Circuit Card initiated by HS students
- Shrinky D***s led by HS students
- Math Bingo organized by HS students
- Mechanical Advantage directed by HS students

Congratulations to all the K-5 students who presented their STEAM projects and participated in this fun and educational night! Thank you to the North Shore parent organizations for sponsoring so many of these interdisciplinary activities. Additionally, many thanks to the North Shore High School science research students, Robotics team, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction CarolAnn Smyth, and faculty and staff for organizing, judging, and running the various STEAM activities and events.

The North Shore Board of Education will conduct a public meeting at 7:45 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2026. The agenda includes:

NS High School 2026 Moving Up Ceremony
A North Shore Tradition Since 1941

On June 5, 2026, Principal Eric Contreras led the annual Moving Up Day Ceremony at North Shore High School, a North Shore tradition since 1941.

During the ceremony, the traditional Weaving Ceremony took place as seniors made their way to the front of the gymnasium (dressed in all white) while the juniors (in yellow), sophomores (in blue), and the freshman (in green) “weaved their way up through the rows.”

Congratulations to all of the HS students and families. Best of luck to the Class of 2026! Go Vikings Go!

NS High School 2026 Moving Up Ceremony
A North Shore Tradition Since 1941

On June 5, 2026, Principal Eric Contreras led the annual Moving Up Day Ceremony at North Shore High School, a North Shore tradition since 1941. Principal Contreras happily welcomed proud parents, students, teachers, administrators, and staff to the historic event held at North Shore High School in the gymnasium. Students from each grade were present and participated in this annual ceremony. In addition, Mr. Contreras recognized the parents who were alumni in the audience!

To a loud round of applause, Principal Contreras congratulated the school Valedictorian, Kaiden Smith, and Salutatorian Sareena Modi! To the students’ delight, each class video was shown! Highlights of the ceremony included the presentation of the Class of 2026 yearbook, student and teacher awards, and the raising of the Class of 2026 banner!

During the ceremony, the traditional Weaving Ceremony followed as seniors made their way to the front of the gymnasium (dressed in all white) while the juniors (in yellow), sophomores (in blue), and the freshman (in green) “weaved their way up through the rows.” Then the teachers performed a music tribute, followed by the juniors’ music tribute and the senior response. To conclude, the seniors formed the line for the gauntlet for the annual Tapping Ceremony where Joseph Antoci was selected!

Congratulations to all the students and the graduating Class of 2026! Many thanks to all of those who participated, including students and teachers in Grades 9-12 and the North Shore musicians under the direction of Mr. Jason Doming and the Concert Chorale under the Direction of Mr. David Catalano. After the ceremony, the students gathered in the courtyard to take photos with friends and families and sign yearbooks.

Thank you to the HS PTO, Principal Contreras, Assistant Principals Dr. Kurrus and Ms. Jennifer Imperiale, secretaries, faculty, and staff, and all of the parents who worked so hard to make this day so memorable. Best of luck to all the HS students! Go Vikings Go!

Please join us TODAY, June 8, for Donuts with Dr. Dolan! The Meet & Greet with Interim Superintendent Dr. Tom Dolan will begin at 5:30 pm in the High School Cafeteria. All parents and community members are welcome.

Dr. Dolan was the Interim Superintendent of the North Shore Schools four years ago and will be returning mid-July for the 2026-27 school year.

GH THIRD GRADE WAX MUSEUM

Third graders in all of the Glen Head Elementary classes were recently involved in an exciting interdisciplinary learning experience - combining English, social studies and the arts. Each student selected a famous person in history or current events – someone who leaves the world a better place – and embodied them in the culmination titled, the Wax Museum.

Clad in elaborate costumes today, the students showcased their famous person in history and sang songs in their individual classrooms. The third graders had written their biographies in first person which they then presented to enable those visiting to learn about their iconic characters. Weeks leading up to this impressive presentation, the third graders practiced expressive elocution and public speaking to capture the essence of each famous person.

All of the third-graders participated in a layered experience of researching, reading, learning, singing, and acting! They investigated historic icons including Albert Einstein, Alexander Hamilton, Abraham Lincoln, Misty Copeland, Taylor Swift, Theodore Roosevelt, Helen Keller, Steve Jobs, Lionel Messi,, Cristiano Ronaldo, Shakira, and Thomas Edison (just to name a few!) Additionally, they learned about important events and movements in history involving some of these famous icons.

Congratulations to all of the students in the third-grade classes and their teachers for presenting such an incredibly creative and educational experience for all of those who were fortunate to attend the Wax Museum at Glen Head Elementary School.

PROJECT MOVE AT GLENWOOD LANDING SCHOOL
GWL Fifth Graders Take the Stage for a Live Performance of Project Move

Project MOVE is a unique arts-in-education program powered with a mission to raise leaders through the arts. The program is designed around building confidence, self-love, motivation, teamwork, and healthy exercise habits to ensure a positive experience and student activities include acting out different scenarios, crafting their own costumes, and dancing to the beat.

During the week of May 18-21, Glenwood Landing fifth graders took the stage in front of their parents and friends to be the stars of this culminating Project MOVE performance. Students enthusiastically participated in this energetic, creative performance that combines different programs that meet each individual school’s goals. Programs include “hip hop dance, music, yoga, theatre, arts, dance, and cheer.” In addition, students in all grades can work with the Project Move team throughout the course of the year.

The fifth graders have many wonderful opportunities during their last year at Glenwood Landing School. This is just one that allows them to be creative, collaborate with students, be leaders, and perform in front of their peers! Many of them have already been involved in leadership opportunities through clubs and activities since the beginning of the 2025-26 school year.

GLENWOOD LANDING SPRING CONCERT
Melodic Sounds of the GWL Spring Concert

In May 2026, Glenwood Landing students took to the stage to perform in the Spring Concert. A round of applause goes out to all the musicians who performed beautifully to the joy of their proud parents and family members, friends, administration, and teachers who were in-person in the audience.

It was exciting to see all the musicians playing harmoniously together after spending numerous hours and months practicing their instruments and learning their sheet music.

Thank you to all the music teachers including Mr. Patrick Falco (Orchestra), Mr. Richard Blake (Band) and Ms. Julianna Curran (Chorus) who all worked so very hard to make this evening a very special and memorable occasion.
