Today, in history, September 8, 1934 during a strong nor'easter with hurricane like conditions, the Morro Castle caught fire and called abandon ship off the coast of Sea Girt. The lighthouse turned on her light to help guild all that jumped overboard to shore, despite being about 2 miles off the coast. Our guards brought in 10+ survivors, a local fishing boat brought in over 70. It was a day of disaster, and a day of heroics.

Sea Girt Lighthouse is reopening for tours this Sunday 2pm-4pm!! Starting on 4/27 and running until 11/23, we will open every Sunday 2pm-4pm (CLOSED holiday weekends: 5/11, 5/25, 6/15, 7/6, and 8/31). Here's to a great season, hope to see everyone soon!

Ticket sales to the 2024 Signing of the Lease Lawn Party (August 3, 6-8pm) are now open to non-members. If you are interested, please mail a check made out to Sea Girt Lighthouse Citizens Committee:

Cost is $100 per ticket, please include your name/address/phone for delivery. Tickets will NOT be sold the day of the party. We have a limited amount left, and they will be sold on a first come/first serve basis.

The Sea Girt Lighthouse is open for tours! Our 2024 season begins today (4/7/24) and will continue until Thanksgiving. We will be open every Sunday, 2pm - 4pm, except for holidays (Mothers, Fathers, Memorial, 4th of July, and Labor Day). Here is to another great season, and hope to see you soon!

On this morning, 1934 (9/8/34) a distress call went out a mile off the Sea Girt coastline. The S.S. Morro Castle was on fire, during a brutal Nor'easter. The Sea Girt Lighthouse turned on her light to guide those jumped overboard to shore. Our brave guards spent hours swimming through gigantic waves to bring in 12 people (and more bodies). Capt Bogan defied Coast Guard orders and took his fishing boat (The Paramount) out and bought in over 70 people. Thanking the many heroes who risked it all to save the lives of so many.
