Sea Isle City Beach Patrol

Sea Isle City Beach Patrol Official page of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol. Headquarters is located at 44th & Promenade

The Sea Isle City Beach Patrol (SICBP) is responsible for surf rescue, and for overseeing beach- and ocean-goers during the summer season in Sea Isle City, a barrier island off of Southern New Jersey. Members of the patrol perform ocean rescues, first aid, and EMT services on designated protected beaches. Each summer, SICBP lifeguards compete in city, county and regional lifeguard races. The patro

l also hosts the annual Captain Bill Gallagher 10 Mile Island Run; Captain Thomas P. McCann mascot school; 1 Mile Ocean Swim; and a Junior Lifeguard program. Prospective lifeguards must perform a cold-water ocean swim test, a running test, and an interview. Those accepted undergo a rigorous "rookie week" of training, which tests stamina on land and in the water, and includes classroom first aid sessions. Lifeguards remain rookies for the entirety of their first summer on the patrol.

Great job to all of our competitors in The Goudy Memorials. The race consists of simulated rescue races. The guards row or swim out to a flag and unhook an attached 50-pound bag. They return the bag by swimming or rowing it back to shore. To finish the race, the guards must run the weighted bag across a finish line located on the beach.

We had a great group of participants in our Lifeguards in Training program this summer! They worked on basic lifesaving skills, rescue techniques, surf bashing, swimming, running, and paddling. We hope to see some of them employed by the beach patrol next summer!

Avoid head, neck, and back injuries... Do not dive headfirst into unknown water. Avoid bodysurfing, boogie boarding, or surfing at the crest of the wave. This practice will result in a rapid, dangerous drop from the top of the wave to the bottom of the wave. Always ride the shoulder of a wave.
