Tony was a great guy who cared deeply for his family, friends, coworkers, and the communities he served. He will be remembered fondly and missed dearly.

Congratulations to Officer John McCarthy and his classmates for graduating from the 203rd NH full-time Police Academy. Today’s ceremony was the culmination of 16 weeks of rigorous training. Ofc. McCarthy now returns to the Patrol Division to complete his field training before being released on solo patrol. Congratulations Ofc. McCarthy!

The Seabrook Police Department is advising residents of bear sightings in the area of Pine Street in the last 24 hours.

Residents are asked to use caution and do not approach, feed, or attempt to interact with the bear. If you encounter the bear, remain calm, maintain a safe distance, and slowly move indoors or away from the area.

Residents should also:

* Secure trash, bird feeders, pet food, and other potential food sources.
* Keep pets indoors or closely supervised.
* Avoid walking or jogging in the immediate area until the bear has moved on.
* Do not attempt to photograph or follow the bear.

We are monitoring the situation and coordinating with the appropriate wildlife authorities. If the bear poses an immediate threat to people or appears injured or trapped, call 911. For non-emergency information, contact the Seabrook Police Department at 603-474-5200.

Residents are encouraged to remain alert and report additional sightings to the Seabrook Police Department.

Thanks to everyone who came out for National Night Out yesterday. We had an awesome time and hope you did, too! A HUGE thank you to Jen and Baylee for organizing a great event and to all the vendors and staff who helped make it a success. It was another reminder of how fortunate we are to be a part of this community. We can’t wait until next year!

It is with profound sadness that New Hampshire Police Standards and Training announces the passing of Lieutenant Earl Nelson, a cherished member of our organization and a respected leader in New Hampshire law enforcement.

Lt. Nelson dedicated 46 years to serving the people of New Hampshire with professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment. Throughout his distinguished career, he served as a police officer with the Keene Police Department, a deputy sheriff with the Cheshire County Sheriff's Office, and as police chief for the Towns of Roxbury, Dublin, Chesterfield, Lyndeborough, and Marlborough.

Since joining New Hampshire Police Standards and Training in 2005, Lt. Nelson faithfully served as a Training Specialist and Commandant of the Part-Time Police Academy. In this role, he helped shape the next generation of law enforcement officers, providing mentorship, guidance, and leadership that left a lasting impact on countless recruits and colleagues alike.

Earl was the consummate professional—a trusted teammate, an exceptional mentor, and a genuinely kind and compassionate man. His dedication to the law enforcement profession and to the mission of the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council strengthened our organization and enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

His legacy will live on through the officers he trained, the communities he served, and the example he set through a lifetime of honorable service.

The members of the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council, along with our entire staff, extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Lt. Nelson's family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

We are grateful for Earl's extraordinary service, and he will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
