Why I’ve never sounded a door.
It’s taught everywhere — but I’ve never done it and there’s a reason. In this one, I break down why sounding the door isn’t part of my size-up, and what I rely on instead.

Tight quarters. Two firefighters. One door that needs to come.

Working in a confined space with a partner changes everything — angles, communication, who drives and who steers. There’s no room for guesswork when you’re that close to the door.

This one breaks down how to stay effective and out of each other’s way when the space is working against you.

Ever forced a door in a spot that had no business fitting two people? Tell us about it 👇

Two-person force — where you stand matters more than you think.

Most teams focus on technique and forget positioning. Get it wrong and you’re cutting your partner’s leverage in half before the door even moves, or breaking his wrist.

This one breaks down the advantages and disadvantages of how you and your partner set up — and why small adjustments can make a big difference when the door isn’t giving.

Watch it, talk it over with your irons partner, then run it on the prop.

Three reasons I reach for the axe every time:

🪓 The blade holds your purchase AND can be driven in deeper to increase it
🪓 The flat striking surface is bigger than a Maul — less chance of missing, safer for the Halligan man
🪓 An 8lb axe gives you all the striking power you need

This is just one method. Check our other videos — some are even more effective depending on the door in front of you.

Axe or Maul? Let’s hear it 👇

There’s no single way to force a door. It may depend on what the door gives you. You may get locked into one technique and freeze when it doesn’t work. The best irons guys have options and know when to switch.

Always be prepared.

We made the mistake on purpose so you don’t have to make it on the job.

“Learn from your mistakes” great advice. But not every mistake can wait until you’re standing in front of a door on the fireground.

Watch what happens when this common forcible entry error gets made, why it slows everything down, and exactly how to avoid it.

Train the right way before the alarm comes in 🚨

Same problem. Different setup for leverage.

Last time we used the axe head. This time we flipped it — and the handle gave us the leverage on the force.

Small adjustment but watch where we position it and why it works.

Which setup do you prefer — axe head or handle? Drop it below and tag your irons partner 👇

Stuck door? Your axe head is leverage you may not be using. Here’s a two-person force using the axe head to multiply your leverage when the door isn’t giving. Watch how it’s positioned and where the force transfers, small details, big results. Ever used your axe head like this?

Gap. Clear. Door didn’t pop. Now what?
Two firefighters, textbook moves, and the door’s still holding. It happens.
Here’s the next move when gapping and clearing didn’t get the job done.

Simple tip in this one — but it’s the difference between the forks tracking where you want them and fighting the door the whole way in.
Get this right and the door comes easier. Get it wrong and you’re both working harder than you need to.

Bevel to jamb vs. bevel to door — know the trade-off.
Both work. But they don’t do the same thing.
✅ Bevel to jamb: easier to drive, smoother access behind the door, less leverage
✅ Bevel to door: more leverage once you’re set, harder push
