Move over, Judge Judy. The AIG classroom just took fairy tales to court!

The Seagrove AIG students used the Depth and Complexity framework to dive deep into classic fairy tales examining multiple perspectives, uncovering hidden patterns, and analyzing the ethics of characters. The culmination was a mock trial in which students took on courtroom roles such as judge, bailiff, attorney, witness, etc. The arguments were fierce, the evidence was compelling, and the verdicts were... surprising!

Today in AIG, fourth graders became angle experts! πŸ“

Using tape, we created different angles right on our tables, and students were challenged to predict the measurements before checking their thinking with protractors. The excitement (and a few surprised faces!) when they compared estimates to actual measurements was priceless.

Through this hands-on activity, students discovered:
β€’ How angles on a straight line add up to 180Β° and the full circle is 360 degrees
β€’ Strategies to check if their measurements were accurate
β€’ That the angles in a triangle always add up to 180Β°

So proud of their critical thinking, teamwork, and perseverance as they explored geometry in a fun and engaging way!

Never underestimate the mind of a 3rd grader. I asked my 3rd graders to give me as many equations as they could with a product of 12.

πŸŽ„πŸ” A little holiday mystery in AIG today! πŸ”πŸŽ„

My third grade AIG students participated in a fun and festive whodunit called β€œThe Toy Shop Thief.” Students became detectives as they worked through clues, made inferences, and examined each suspect’s motive and alibi to determine who sabotaged Christmas and took all the gifts!

I love watching their critical thinking shineβ€”our young investigators were fully engaged and worked together brilliantly. πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈπŸŽβœ¨

Great job, detectives! πŸŽ„πŸ”βœ¨

Last week, my fourth grade AIG students put their engineering skills to the test by building bridges out of gum drops and toothpicks. This week, we took it a step further and held a strength competition to see which designs could hold the most weight β€” and we ended with a tie among several impressive bridges!

Along the way, students learned the difference between tension and compression, and discovered why triangles are stronger than squares in structural design. 🚧✨

So proud of their creativity, teamwork, and growing engineering minds! πŸ§ πŸ’‘
Special thanks to Bryan Loflin for volunteering his time and sharing his expertise with us!

Today my fifth grade AIG students dove into SEED (Silverquicken Episodes for Enrichment and Diagnosis)Episode 1: Four-Maze 🌱🧠✨
Students were fully engaged as they explored puzzles, challenges, and creative problem-solving tasks that stretched their thinking in new ways. I loved watching their perseverance and excitement as they worked through the maze of ideas together.

This group is off to a great startβ€”can’t wait to see where the next episode takes us! πŸ’‘πŸš€

πŸ§ πŸ—οΈ Bridge Builders in Action!
Today, our 4th grade AIG students welcomed a civil engineer, Mr. Bryan Loflin, who shared all about bridges, structures, and the fascinating world of engineering! Students learned lots of new vocabulary and then put their knowledge to the test by designing and building their own bridges using gumdrops and toothpicks. 🍬✨

Stay tunedβ€”next week we’ll find out whose bridge can hold the most weight before collapsing! πŸ’ͺπŸŒ‰
