Four tips for safety! If you have windows that can open from both top and bottom, make a habit of opening just the top to prevent accidental falls. Keep in mind that as kids grow, they may have enough strength, dexterity and curiosity to open the bottom.

For your crawlers and climbers, move chairs, cribs and other furniture away from windows to help prevent window falls. If your baby is in a carrier, remember to place it on the floor, not on top of a table or other furniture. It only takes a second for a child to fall, and falls from any height for children of young age can be dangerous.

Your child’s imagination can turn any space into a play zone. Let’s make sure windows aren’t one of them.

If you wouldn’t let your child play on a balcony or ledge, don’t let them near a window either. What other advice have you found helpful as a parent?

A dresser. A crib. A toy box. If it’s near a window, it could be a launchpad. Move it away to move your child out of danger. Rearranging furniture = rearranging the odds. Even one small shift can prevent a big accident. Also, remember, a screen may stop a fly but not a fall.

Screens are NOT safety devices. Don’t rely on them to protect your child. Please share this video and help us raise awareness of window safety.

Due to an ongoing commercial chemical release in the City of Garden Grove, portions of the city east of Valley View Street are being evacuated. Out of an abundance of caution, the Navy Golf Course in Cypress is also being evacuated at this time. The Naval Weapons Station itself is over 2.5 miles away and upwind of the chemical release site, and no evacuations are expected for the base.
