Down East Fire Department Fire, Rescue and Community Center. Formally known as Sealevel Fire & Rescue

Down East Fire Department is a not-for-profit organization that provides Fire, EMS and Community Center functions for eastern Carteret County. We provide Paramedic Emergency Medical Care and Fire services for the townships of Cedar Island, Atlantic, Sea Level, Stacy and Davis. Over the past few years Sea Level FD and Atlantic FD merged together and recently we merged with Davis FD. Station 1 967 S

Safe Kids Carteret County and the Carteret County Health Department will host a free car seat checking event Sept. 26 at Eastern Park in Smyrna. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their car seat, vehicle and child when possible.

Congratulations Chief Jay Howell! Thank you for all you do.

For more than five decades, Chief Jay Howell has been a dedicated servant and leader in North Carolina's fire service. Beginning his career with the Nahunta Volunteer Fire Department in 1969, he went on to serve as Fire Chief for 36 years, helping guide and strengthen his department while earning the respect of firefighters across the state.

A past President of the North Carolina Association of Fire Chiefs, former NCSFA Firefighter of the Year, and current Treasurer of the North Carolina State Firefighters' Association, Chief Howell has devoted his career to advancing the fire service at the local, state, and national levels. His leadership has also extended to the National Fire Protection Association, where he has represented volunteer fire departments in the development of national standards.

His lifetime of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to North Carolina's firefighters make him a truly deserving member of the Timothy L. Bradley Hall of Fame.

Thank you Chief Jay Howell for all you have done and continue to do for Nahunta Fire Dept, and departments across the county, state, and nation! Congratulations, Chief!

A new fire station is coming to Sea Level, and a longtime community supporter is helping make it happen.

The Taylor Foundation is donating $50,000 to help build the new Down East Fire Station No. 2. Fire officials say construction is about to begin.

Come out this Saturday and help us support one of our own at Station 2 in Sea Level.
$10 per plate. We will start at 11 until we are sold out.
We will also have a raffle with some great prizes. You can purchase tickets at the event. 1 ticket for $5 or 5 tickets for $20. You do not need to be present to win. We have prizes from EJW Outdoors, Davis Shore Provisions General Store, West Marine, Dock House, Wild Will’s Revenge also local oysters from 35 North and High Tiders Oyster co. Plus more.
Thank you to everyone who donated prizes and local businesses for donating food like El’s East.
