The CALL in White, Jackson & Woodruff Counties

Mobilizing the Christian community to provide a future and a hope to children in Arkansas foster care. Mailing Address: P.O. Box 111, Searcy, AR 72143

There are about 3,500 children in the Arkansas State Foster Care System at any given time. These children come into state custody through no fault of their own - it is because of abuse, neglect, or some other safety concern in the home. For instance, there are about 7,000 children in foster care in Arkansas within a year, and there are only about 1,100 foster families available to care for those c

hildren! Plus, there are over 500 children available for adoption through foster care in our state. It's a crisis shortage! It's time for the Body of Christ to step up and meet the needs of these children in our own neighborhoods. We are asking you, if you are called, to care for one of these precious children through foster care, adoption, respite care, or volunteering in some way.

Foster care is local missions.

Christians are called to care for the fatherless and vulnerable. Today, foster care is one of the ways the Church can live out that calling in a very real and tangible way.

But knowing 𝘩𝘰𝘸 to step into foster care can feel overwhelming. That’s where The CALL comes in.

We're here to equip local churches to support children and families impacted by foster care.

That can look different in every community. It might look like calling families to open their homes, rallying around foster families through Care Teams, creating spaces for prayer and encouragement, or supporting the mission through donations. The CALL walks alongside local churches, helping them engage in foster care ministry in ways that fit their people, resources, and community.

We know that stepping into foster care seems daunting. There are a lot of questions and "what if's" that can keep us from saying YES. But...what if you didn't need to see the full journey? What if you didn't need to know all the answers and address all the concerns?

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽?

When we read Scripture and see God calling His people to action, He often only gives them the first step. He calls them to obedience without revealing His bigger plan.

Is He calling you to take the first step? Is He calling you to trust Him without knowing how everything will turn out?

We know that He is faithful. We know His grace is sufficient. 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵.

Teenagers are growing in independence, but that doesn’t mean they’re outgrowing their need for connection. Having a safe, supportive caregiver still matters deeply. Building a strong relationship doesn’t always require a big conversation. Sometimes, it happens in the little moments, like saying yes to an expressed need or sharing a hobby.

Below are four simple ways to foster that connection! What other ways do you connect with the teens in your life? Add them in the comments!

💙 𝗦𝗮𝘆 𝘆𝗲𝘀. When it’s safe and realistic, say yes when your teen asks for something. The more you say yes and meet their needs, the more they learn to trust and accept love.

🎮 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝟭𝟬. Set aside at least 10 minutes each day to do something your teen enjoys, whether that’s playing video games, participating in sports, doing each other’s nails, or simply hanging out. Find ways to enjoy the time and make room for joy and laughter!

🎵 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗯𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀. Invite your teen to teach you about the things they love. Ask them to share their favorite music, games, books, or interests with you.

🫶 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. Pay attention to their body language, tone, and energy. Mirroring their behavior in subtle ways can communicate acceptance and approachability.

What if a child’s challenging behavior is actually a sign that they need to feel safe, known, and loved?

Many children in our communities have experienced trauma that can impact the way they connect with others. As churches welcome children into classrooms, youth groups, and ministries, church staff and volunteers have the opportunity to respond with empathy, patience, and consistency.

💙 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗶𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 is a trauma-informed training designed to equip churches with practical tools and insights to:

✨ Prioritize connection over correction
✨ Understand how trauma impacts children
✨ Recognize when a child is feeling unsafe and experiencing dysregulation
✨ Implement trauma-sensitive strategies to help these children thrive
✨ Foster curiosity, compassion, and connection in your interactions with children

Back-to-school season brings new routines, busy evenings, and full calendars for every family. For foster families, those adjustments can also come with additional appointments, transitions, and the needs of children who may be navigating a season of change.

If you know a foster family in your community, a small act of support can make a big difference during this season. We've got a few ideas to get you started!

🍝 Drop off a warm meal for dinner
🍼 Offer to babysit
🚙 Run an errand or two around town
📚 Help with homework
📞 Check in with foster parents

Every child deserves the security of knowing they are loved, valued, and never alone.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝟭𝟯, 𝟭𝟱, 𝗼𝗿 𝟭𝟳.

As a new school year begins, many students are feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. But for many teens in foster care, this season also comes with uncertainty. Some don't know where they'll be living in the weeks ahead. Others wonder who will be in the stands at their games, attend parent-teacher conferences, celebrate their accomplishments, or help them navigate important milestones like getting a driver's license or applying for college.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲:
➡️ 𝟯𝟴% of children in Arkansas foster care are 𝟭𝟯 𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿.

𝗧𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗱'𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲, full of potential, and deeply in need of adults who will see them, believe in them, and walk alongside them. Yet they often wait the longest for families and are among the most overlooked in foster care.

We believe every teen deserves to be seen. To be supported. To belong. And we believe the Church is uniquely equipped to help meet that need.

💙 As this school year begins, ask yourself how you might step into a teen's story. Maybe that means becoming a foster parent or mentor for a teen in care. Maybe that means leading your small group to provide support to a local foster family. Maybe that means praying for more homes willing to open their doors to teens in need.

As students head back to classrooms across Arkansas, will you join us in praying for them and those who support them?

💙 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽.
Pray for children and teens entering new schools, new classrooms, or new communities to feel welcomed and known. Pray they would build healthy friendships, find encouragement from peers, and be surrounded by people who speak life into them.

💙 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹, 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵.
Pray that children and families would have the support, care, and resources they need to thrive. Pray for support on the sick days, kindness on the hard days, and time and space to heal from the challenges they carry.

💙 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁.
Pray for foster parents to have wisdom, patience, strength, and moments of rest as they navigate new routines and support children through transitions. Pray that students experiencing change would find trusted adults and peers they can lean on.

💙 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲.
Pray for those entering their final year of high school as they prepare for adulthood, make important decisions, and navigate an uncertain future.

💙 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳.
Pray for discernment, compassion, and patience as they care for students who come from many different backgrounds and bring with them many different needs.
