Duties of the Searsboro Fire Department are: Public Safety, Search and Rescue, Fire Suppresant, Structural, Grass, Auto Fires, Storm spotting, mutual aid to other departments, and Fire education to Lynnville-Sully, and Sully Christian Schools. Searsboro also holds annual fundraisers to raise money for new equipment or replacements.

For Grinnell's town-wide garage sale, the Searsboro Fire Department is hosting a fundraiser at 1817 Prince St. Free will donation, all proceeds will go to the department. We don't want to pack anything back up, so let's find a new home for all of this stuff! A deep freeze, carpet cleaner, plus loads of home and seasonal decor, boys clothes, women's clothes (including maternity), toys, so much baby stuff! Look out for the signs with the fire trucks on them on the NW side of town, plus a giant fire truck in the cul-de-sac! 🚒👩‍🚒🧑‍🚒👨‍🚒🚒 There will also be baked goods and lemonade after school and on Saturday, sold by future firefighters!

At approximately 11:32am Searsboro Fire Department was paged to a wood pile on fire next to a small steel structure with hay bales in it. Upon arrival firefighter immediately started cooling the shed to prevent the bales of hay from igniting before beginning suppression of the wood pile. Firefighters were on scene for approximately 45 minutes.
Responding units were one engine and two brush units.

Strong west winds combined with low relative humidity values will lead to dangerous fire weather conditions across portions of central and western Iowa today. A Red Flag Warning is in place for the most problematic areas in the state, primarily the southwest quarter of the state. Any fires that do get out of control will likely spread very rapidly today, therefore burning is not advised.
