Good morning folks! We have some surplus nitrile gloves and paper gowns that we'd like to offer to the citizens. These are not medical grade and we are not able to use them. We'd like to get them to people who can use them rather than toss them out. We'll be at the Public Safety Building on February 28 from 9am-noon (also everyday from 6a-6p). This is a first come first serve basis, and no charge.

Good morning, yesterday afternoon at 1535hrs Searsport Fire and EMS were called to the RSU 20 maintenance facility for a reported structure fire. When the first unit arrived on scene heavy smoke was coming from the peak of the steel-clad building, with roof compromise on the North end of the building. Mutual aid was requested from Belfast Fire, Stockton Springs Fire Department and West Frankfort Fire Department for manpower, Bucksport Fire was requested for their ladder. Due to the structural compromise all crews worked in defensive mode. Shortly after 1800hrs the fire was under control. One school bus and one in-service pickup truck were in the building at the time along with two other vehicles that were undergoing long-term repairs, all were lost. The Maine Fire Marshall's Office is investigating the fire and at this time no cause has been established.

I'd like to thank the RSU 20 bus drivers who arrived to move busses away from the building and left one running for us to use as a place to warm up and grab some food. The deli crew at Edward's in Searsport for making pizza for us at the last minute. Along with Searsport Police Department and Maine State Police for assisting with traffic control.

-Interim Chief Koch.

FMO Investigating Fatal Fire in Windsor

On Monday, December 8, 2025, at approximately 5:58 pm, the Windsor Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 489 Ridge Road in Windsor. Upon arrival, fire units encountered heavy fire conditions throughout the residence. Due to information suggesting that an occupant may have been trapped inside, the State Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to assist at the scene. During the subsequent search, fire investigators and fire department personnel located a deceased female inside the residence. The victim is believed to be 77-year-old Lorraine Knox who lived at the home. Investigators and firefighters remained on scene for much of the evening working to determine the cause of the fire. At this time, the fire remains under investigation. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta will conduct an examination to determine the cause of death and positively confirm identification. It was reported that Knox had been experiencing furnace issues and was using electric heaters to warm the residence during the recent cold weather.

Residents are reminded to take precautions to stay safe while heating their homes during cold weather:

•Keep space heaters at least three feet away from anything flammable, never leave them unattended, and avoid using extension cords.
•Ensure smoke alarms are installed on every level of your home and test them monthly.
•Know your home’s fire escape plan and make sure all household members are familiar with it.
•Avoid overloading electrical circuits.
•Have your heating system inspected and maintained regularly.
•Install carbon monoxide alarms centrally outside each sleeping area, on every level, and near fuel-burning appliances.
