Searsport MDOT Route 1 Project Update:

By the end of the day today, Thursday May 23, 2024, Gordon Construction plans to open Route 1 to 2-way traffic all the way through Searsport for the Memorial Day weekend. This could happen as early at 3:00 PM or as late as 7 PM this evening depending on how soon they can get the road ready for thru traffic. This includes taping cross walk locations, setting up safety cones, striping the center line, etc. Hopefully the rain will hold off until these tasks have been completed thus allowing for an earlier window to open up Route 1. Please note the detour will be put back in place the morning of Tuesday May 28, 2024 for all south bound traffic.

The schedule is still on target to permanently open Route 1 through Searsport town to 2 way traffic just prior to July 4, 2024.

We wish you all a great holiday weekend. Please drive safely and courteous to others and don't hesitate to stop by and patronize all the local businesses in Searsport, especially those who have been hit the hardest during this construction project.

UPDATE: DISRUPTION IN WATER SERVICE ALONG THE CAPE JELLISON ROAD IN STOCKTON SPRINGS HAVE BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL TOMORROW SEPTEMBER 26, 2023 - Today's water service shutdown to make necessary upgrades has been postponed until tomorrow Tuesday September 26, 2023 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The purpose of the shutdown is to install new hydrants and main line gate valves on each side of the Railroad Tracks to allow better flushing of the water mains, reduce future shutdown times in the event of an emergency, and provide isolation of the water main running under the railroad tracks should an emergency occur in that location.

Prior to the shutdown period we suggest that you fill water containers for drinking purposes along with filling your bathtubs and or buckets to flush toilets during the outage period. Once the water is turned back on we will work diligently to flush the water main to clear any air and rust coloration from the system. This process can take a few hours to complete so please be patient.

Please do not use any water from your faucets and/or toilets once the water has been turned off as this will empty the water main in the street and cause for a longer restoration period as more air will enter the line thus lengthening the flushing time once the water main is put back into service.

Once the water has been turned back on and you see us flushing the hydrants past your location we would recommend that you flush the water through your household system by running the water in your tub and or kitchen sink to remove any air and/or rust colored water that may enter the line to your home. Don't forget to remove the aerator/screen on your kitchen sink prior to running your water as sediment can plug the screen.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we move forward with making necessary improvements to the water system in the Cape Jellison area.

Also note that the Health Center will not be affected by this shutdown and will remain open.

Should you have any further questions and/or concerns please feel free to contact our office between the hours of 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM by calling 207-548-2910. If it is after hours you may call the Waldo County Dispatch Center at 207-338-2040 and they will dispatch our technicians to your location.

We here at the Searsport Water District thank you in advance and we apologize for any inconvenience.

We would like to let everyone know that we here at the Searsport Water District have taken all steps necessary to prepare for any storm related event that is coming our way. The latest update, as of 1:30 today, is that Hurricane Lee is being downgraded for our area and is expected to drop between 1 to 1.5 inches of rain on us. Wind prediction has lessened to around 30 mph with gust of up to 50 mph on Saturday.

CMP is preparing for 300-400 thousand power outages and have crews on hand to meet the demands of these outages.

Stay away from the surf along the coast and away from all downed power lines. Should you experience a power outage please call the CMP Outage Line at 1-800-696-1000 to report your outage.

If you are a Searsport Water District customer and experience any drinking water related issues please contact the Waldo County Communication Center at 207-338-2040 and they will dispatch our on-call personnel.

Thank you all and stay safe out there.

WATER DISRUPTION NOTICE FOR CAPE JELLISON RESIDENTS: We will be temporarily shutting down the water to Cape Jellison within the next couple of weeks. This shut down is necessary in order to install new gate valves and by-pass hydrants on each side of the railroad tracks. This will prevent future large scale shut downs by minimizing the area between gate valves depending on the location of future needed shut downs. Our staff will hand delivery Notices to each resident prior to the shut down day and we will also post the date on our page.

Construction Updates: We have replaced many water mains this year and are on track to complete all planned construction no later than November 15, 2023.

With regards to the water main replacement projects our contractor has completed the following: In Searsport: Water Street, Elm Street, Leach Street, Park Street, Howard Street, and Savage Road. They are currently working on replacing the water main on the Cape Jellison Road in Stockton Springs and expect to be done with the project no later than Wednesday September 27, 2023. Once completed the contractor will then move back to Searsport to replace the Navy Street water main, which will be the last planned water main replacement project for the next few years. Also, we previously planned to replace the water main on Church Street in Searsport but needed to delay that project until further notice due to the large quantity of ledge within that area.

It has certainly been a busy year as the MDOT project in Searsport has also been underway since mid-July. You most like have noticed that Prospect Street is currently shut down at the intersection of Route 1. This will most likely be shut down for the next week or so until all the work with the storm drain system and sewer system have been completed in that area.

2021 Water Main Replacement Projects: Starting on Monday July 12, 2021 our contractors will begin replacing the water main on Norris Street and Cross Street in Searsport. During this time we ask that all traffic use Steamboat Avenue to access the town wharf. If you live in the area our contractors will direct you to the best route of travel during construction. Once construction is complete the Town will be paving the entire road within the construction area.

Upon completion of the Norris and Cross Street water main project the contractor will move to Union Street and Black Road South where the water mains along those streets will then be replaced. We will provide a startup date for the Union Street and Black Road South project as soon as it becomes available.

See photos of project areas and thank you in advance for your cooperation while we complete these projects.
