Honored and incredibly proud to share that Sergeant Hershey, Patrolman Leahy, and Class II Officers Emmets, Beebe, and Trezza of the Seaside Heights Police Department were awarded the Meritorious Service Award for their courageous actions during a high-risk domestic violence incident on November 24, 2024.

Through swift action, teamwork, and bravery under pressure, they protected a victim from imminent harm and safely apprehended an armed suspect attempting to access a loaded firearm. Their professionalism and dedication ensured the safety of fellow officers and the community they serve every day.

Congratulations to all involved on this well-deserved recognition. Your courage and commitment do not go unnoticed. 💙👮‍♂️👏

If you keep buying Hermit Crabs from the beach shops every year, than you are apart of the problem. Every Hermit Crab bought from one of these beach shops are replaced by at-least 10+ more crabs. It’s a terrible endless cycle. Be the change this world needs🫶 share & advocate to help spread awareness for this upcoming summer.

Our Academy staff is deeply saddened by the passing of our Chief Training Coordinator Ret. Lt. John Tate.

After beginning his career with the Seaside Heights Police Department and retiring as a Lieutenant in 2003, he joined the Academy staff and began training recruits in 2005.

For more than two decades, he mentored and shaped generations of police recruits who came through our Academy — not just teaching them how to do the job, but how to be in the job. He set the standard for professionalism, integrity, and leadership, all while making the toughest days a little lighter with his unmistakable humor.

He was smart in a way that made everyone around him sharper. Kind in a way that made everyone around him better. And generous with his time, wisdom, and encouragement in ways that will ripple through this profession for years to come.

The officers walking our streets today carry pieces of his guidance with them. His impact cannot be measured in years of service alone — it lives on in the countless lives he influenced.

We are better because he was here.
We are grateful for his leadership.
We will carry his legacy forward.

Rest easy. We’ve got it from here. 💙

We are sending our deepest condolences to the Tate family today. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
