Yesterday was Dr. King's Birthday. CPY marched in the parade along with the 2020 Census Monterey County bee. A reminder of Martin Luther King Jr.'s quote: “We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.” How important it is to view one another with respect and dignity. Let's work together to make sure every person is counted for the census. It helps us all to receive the services we need. Watch for the bee at your next event. He/She does not sting!

Great to have Ms. Lisa back. Allowing our children to dream and have a vision is a special gift and our kiddos love to experience this with Ms. Lisa.

Vision boards with Community Partnership for Youth (CPY)'s Highland students yesterday! A smaller group than usual (most of the kids were getting in some outdoor play time before today's storm), but still very enjoyable. I love seeing what everyone envisions!

CPY wants children to learn to give as well as receive. Sponsors made it possible for 58 CPY students to shop for 5 family members. 171 volunteers shopped with a child and then spent time wrapping the gifts together. Each shopper then purchased a gift for the child. We anticipate a total of 343 individuals will received gifts through our Kohl’s Shopping Project. @Seaside Rotary Club, @Mann Packing Company @National Charity League

Holiday Giving Season is upon us. A shout out to all of the schools, churches, service clubs, businesses and individuals that are helping to provide Christmas for the CPY family. Families are being adopted. The first 2 Saturdays in December you will find children shopping for their families at Kohl's. Every CPY student has prepared an angel requesting a gift and a book. We still have some angels left - let us know if you would like to help provide Christmas for our students.

It was our honor to celebrate the heart of Adriana. A life changer in so many ways.

This #ThrowbackThursday we're looking back at last week's National Philanthropy Day.
Our owner Adriana was both humbled and proud to be honored by the Association for Fundraising Professionals Monterey Bay Chapter for her work with and support of Community Partnership for Youth. (Pictured here with CPY Executive Director Shari Hastey and Program Director Benjamin Bruce).

Every week Adriana welcomes kids from CPY in to Revival Ice Cream to learn about running a business, and to support them as they share their hopes and dreams with each other - and us!
Adriana and the whole Revival team are appreciative for the chance to give back to our local youth with CPY.

If you see these amazing kids on Fridays at Revival, pop over and say hi! 🌞🌞

Yesterday's art activity with Community Partnership for Youth (CPY)'s after-school students at Highland - Gratitude Notecards inspired by Autumn Leaves!

I wish to express my own gratitude to Shari Hastey and Ben Bruce for these wonderful opportunities to volunteer with their CPY youth. I am also thankful for Ms. Isadore's warm welcome each time I visit Highland, for Ms. AnaLaura's helpfulness with each activity and for the kids and their creative enthusiasm and energy!

Revival Ice Cream

Every Friday, through our Inspire & Empower program, we welcome kids from Community Partnership for Youth (@cpy4kids ) . Their visit with Mr. Ben, the CPY Program Director, is one of our favorite activities. The kids not only eat ice cream but also talk about their dreams and passions, sharing with each other and us. Our owner, Adriana, also shares with them Revival's mission and business best practices....giving them an early start learning about entrepreneurship.
This month we launched a new activity with these amazing kids. Every visit they get to dream up a new delicious ice cream flavor and once a month we choose a flavor to create and feature!
Last Friday, our first flavor winner, Ryan, inaugurated his winning flavor, - the very delicious and classic Vanilla Raspberry and we served it up over the weekend. Ryan and his friends from CPY came to put his flavor in the dip case and we sent Ryan home with a pint to share with his family....which is a good thing cause it sold out over the weekend! 😁🌞
Did you get to try Ryan's flavor?!

Maps, mandalas and this month's visit to Highland Elementary to enjoy collage art with Community Partnership for Youth (CPY) students! My approach is to provide the foundation of an idea, then encourage students to build from there with their own uniquely creative ideas. It is always fun to see the variety of interpretations!

Last Friday's Harvest Moon along with colors of the upcoming Autumn harvest season were the inspiration for yesterday's torn paper collage art with Community Partnership for Youth (CPY) students at Highland yesterday. Some students chose the moon (as I did with my sample), while others created landscapes, the Earth, hearts and 3-dimensional abstracts. I love how they always dive right into each monthly activity, feeling free to creatively express themselves, either interpreting the original idea in their own unique style or expanding on the idea by taking it in their own new direction. It's always exciting to watch their process and see what results!

An early Happy Fall to you all!

Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula

Dr Swick is awesome. Practical, insightful and a mama. She was a part of the CPY training this summer. We highly recommend this free lecture.

Dr. Susan Swick, Physician in chief, Ohana, invites you to a free lecture on August 29 at Community Hospital where she will discuss how to tell the difference between anxiety, depression, and normal adolescent development in your over- or under-achieving child as they start the school year. Register at http://bit.ly/2KmLYqI.

First activity of the new school year with Community Partnership for Youth (CPY)'s after-school program at Highland Elementary - "Puzzle Pieces" collage art! Wonderful to see familiar faces (who grew up over the summer and look older!) as well as new faces. I'm so happy and grateful to be able to spend a little bit of time with these young creative spirits! (I forgot to take a pic of my samples, so I'll add one soon.)

Grateful to have Laura and Eddie working Monday and Tuesdays with our students. Learning new moves and reaching beyond their comfort zones. Thank you @Monterey Peninsula Ballet Theatre for your partnership.

Honored to team up with local nonprofit CPY this summer to impact approx. 80 children for 5 weeks through dance. CPY’s mission is to serve as a “prevention program providing positive alternatives to gangs, drugs and violence while reinforcing individual strengths.” MPBT instructors helped to fulfill CPY’s vision to “provide our youth with a safe, structured environment that encourages healthy boundaries, positive self-esteem and the ability to make good choices for a full and successful life.” #dancersgiveback #communityimpact

Today's art project for CPY's Summer Intersession program - Summer Vision Boards! Students were encouraged to create a torn paper collage in warm or cool tones and select and layer a word for summer inspiration. I enjoyed seeing their many different results! Borrowing a word from one student's vision board, I think CPY and their students are awesome!
