Presidio of Monterey Firefighters Local F-166 We also work with 4 Dispatchers and 1 Burn Specialist who runs the Prescribed Burn Program. We have two, single company stations fully staffed, 24/7.

The Presidio of Monterey (POM) Fire Department provides superior customer service to the Ord Military Community and the Presidio of Monterey DLI, their residents, California State University Monterey Bay, as well as to the surrounding cities when requested. POM Fire Department provides a wide range of services from fire protection, fire prevention, emergency medical services, wildland fire respons

e, hazardous materials response and mitigation, vehicle accident response, technical rescue services, public education and community awareness and fire inspections just to name a few. POM Fire Department employs 32 full time personnel; 1 Fire Chief, 1 Assistant Chief, 2 Division Chiefs, 4 Captains, 20 Firefighters, 1 Prevention Chief and 3 Fire Inspectors. We staff an Engine company (Engine 6112) with 4 personnel, a Truck company, with a 105' aerial ladder (Truck 6171) with four personnel, and a Chief Officer as our Duty Chief to give us a minimum staffing of 9 personnel daily. We also cross staff (switch to when needed) 3 separate wildland fire response apparatus that can and have responded all over the State of California for wild fires, a 2000 gallon water tender that delivers water to locations where there are no hydrants for our use, a Terra Torch with is basically a flame thrower and gas tank on wheels that we utilize during the annual prescribed burns, a state of the art Hazardous Materials response apparatus with highly trained personnel to mitigate hazmat incidents, and a top notch Technical Rescue apparatus that is capable of high angle/low angle rope rescues as well as confined space rescues. In 2021 we responded to 809 incidents.
