Veterans For Peace is a global organization of Military Veterans and allies whose collective efforts are to build a culture of peace by using our experiences and lifting our voices. We inform the public of the true causes of war and the enormous costs of wars, with an obligation to heal the wounds of wars. Our network is comprised of over 140 chapters worldwide whose work includes: educating the public, advocating for a dismantling of the war economy, providing services that assist veterans and victims of war, and most significantly, working to end all wars.

Statement of Purpose We, having dutifully served our nation, do hereby affirm our greater responsibility to serve the cause of world peace. To this end we will work, with others To increase public awareness of the costs of war To restrain our government from intervening, overtly and covertly, in the internal affairs of other nations To end the arms race and to reduce and eventually eliminate nuclear weapons To seek justice for veterans and victims of war To abolish war as an instrument of national policy. To achieve these goals, members of Veterans For Peace pledge to use non-violent means and to maintain an organization that is both democratic and open with the understanding that all members are trusted to act in the best interests of the group for the larger purpose of world peace.

“Thanks to the failure of the press, and to the stupidity of Hollywood,” wrote Sgt. Denis Nunan, camped in Italy, to his mother on March 23, 1945, “the Home Front has no real conception of war, and only by letters home can the truth be made known.”

“Under the helmets, the faces are young and tormented, stubbled and dirty, taut with the strain of battle. They sob over dead friends. They stare exhausted into the fog and rain. They crouch in a muddy foxhole. This goddamn cigarette could be the last.

Editorial Comment: “It would be cowardly to ignore them.” —Marie Colvin (1956-2012), war correspondent

Thank you, Bernie Sanders for helping raise awareness about the disgusting and unpatriotic practice to deport U.S. veterans.

CC: Rep. Jimmy Panetta

Trump's xenophobia and anti-immigrant hatred can never be what this country is about. When we are in the White House, we will place a moratorium on deportations and we will undo every damn thing Trump has done to demonize immigrants and Latinos.

Last year VFP Chapter 11 (Santa Cruz) and other dedicated groups devoted themselves to honoring “Armistice Year” having monthly events culminating in a large celebration on the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day.

Armistice100 Santa Cruz, by filmmaker L.B. Johnson documents those efforts, masterly weaving image, music, and narrative from a year of healing events. Take Action For Jose!

Dear Governor Gavin Newsom and Rep. Jimmy Panetta,

We are writing to you today to ask you to release and grant clemency to USMC veteran Jose Segovia Benitez who is presently being held at the I.C.E. Processing Center in Adelanto, California.

Jose served in Iraq with the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged from the military for his service. Not only did Jose reaffirm his allegiance through his combat service in Iraq and his honorable discharge, he also continues to suffer from his service to the United States in the form of PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury. Jose deserves to be allowed to live in the country in which his allegiance has been demonstrated.

We urge you to pardon Jose Segovia Benitez so he can continue the process of gaining his citizenship.

Sincerely,
VFP Chapter 46 Monterey

From Veterans For Peace:

Next Monday, Honor Indigenous Peoples' Day!

Veterans For Peace believes that the federal holiday commemorating the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the “New World” is an affront to Indigenous peoples everywhere and particularly to native peoples of the Americas. We denounce the celebration of a person who carried out mass killings and genocidal acts against Indigenous peoples and paved the way for European colonization of native lands and enslavement of native peoples.

Today, Veterans For Peace asks that you sign our “Remove the Stain” petition. As veterans, we are aware of our legacy as military veterans as participants in the ways in which we have perpetuated injustice across the globe and against indigenous people. We know that this petition and the law will not erase the violence used against the Sioux people. We, however, believe these medals from Wounded Knee should immediately be rescinded.

Read the Statement and Sign the Petition on our VFP website here: https://www.veteransforpeace.org/take-action/indigenous-peoples-day?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=0dcf9ebc-5e7f-4aab-b3d5-85a48b213146

What this all about?

"Boeing produced an analysis that determined HB 2020 would increase the Gresham factory’s energy costs by $1 million per year. But text messages acquired by Salem Reporter show when the governor’s staff asked for that analysis in an attempt to address the matter, company officials declined, saying it was proprietary information."

The Cost of Running Guantánamo Bay: $13 Million Per Prisoner

He locals in Monterey, California. We highly recommend you all go to see “Official Secrets” at the Osio Theater. True story of how a woman at GCHQ leaked a classified report about US / UK lying to the UN / both nations about WMDs that Bush / Blair claimed was justification for the Iraq invasion.

Watching the film our blood was boiling as the story developed, knowing the tragic results . . . and we’re still in an 17 year old war because Bush - Cheney - Rumsfeld - Bolton - Wolfowitz lied to America.

Set up nearly 18 years ago to house detainees in the war on terrorism, the prison on the remote naval base has grown into what appears to be the most expensive on earth.

"The men and women on the front line have seen the results of these mishaps firsthand. They know how the realities of these wars have differed from the abstract theories of the neoconservatives and liberal hawks, concocted in think tank conference rooms far removed from the real world. Out of all responses there is only ONE that we would stand behind. We can't directly say which candidate because of our nonprofit status. We see the only way to resolve the conflict is through mediation between the stakeholders and of course military taken off the table!

We asked the Democratic candidates what, if any, additional steps the United States should take to remove Nicolás Maduro from power in Venezuela.

Here's how they answered.

Veterans For Peace honors the Kellogg-Briand Pact

Watch the video!

Kellogg Briand Pact

August 27th marks the anniversary of the Kellogg-Briand Pact, a treaty that essentially outlawed war. The pact had two clauses: the first outlawed war as an instrument of national policy and the second called upon signatories to settle their disputes by peaceful means.

One hundred years ago the world celebrated peace as a universal principle. The first World War had just ended and nations mourning their dead collectively called for an end to all wars. Armistice Day was born and was designated as “a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated."

The Kellogg-Briand Pact remains an active treaty that reminds us what is possible if the international community unifies to demand an end to war.

To celebrate today, Veterans For Peace is giving away a free Armistice Day sticker.

On August 27th, 1928, countries around the world came together to sign the Kellogg-Briand Pact - a treaty that essentially outlawed war. The Kellogg-Briand P...

Our concerns are coming to fruition. The Administration doesn't fill staff vacancies and argues that the VA needs to be privatized to be more effective.

Yes, please help the veterans who are not near a hospital or have long waiting times, but fund it and keep your hands off our VA funding.

“Instead of pouring all those billions of dollars into the private sector and making their wallets a lot thicker, redirect that money to the Veterans Administration, fully staff the veterans’ hospitals and improve the hospitals for our veterans, because our veterans deserve that plus a lot more,” Ortiz said. #SaveOurVA

General information

Veterans for Peace, also known as Vets for Peace, was started in 1967 by returning Vietnam veterans. Then faded into oblivian in the mid 1970's. In 1985 Veterans for Peace, Inc (VFP) was revitalized and incorporated as a 501(c)3 national veterans organization. Much of VFP, Inc's focus was on US involvement in Central America in the 1980's. Shortly after Iraq invade Kuwait in the late summer of 1990 many of VFP's 40+ chapters started being active again. The closest VFP chapter to Monterey was Chapter 13 in Santa Cruz some 45 miles north of Monterey. In late 1990, combat troops from Fort Ord's 7th Light Infantry began flying C-141 cargo planes out of the Monterey municipal airport. As a result when local peace groups started protest in the streets of Monterey a few of us decided to start our own chapter in Monterey. Gordon Smith a VFP member of the Santa Cruz VFP chapter contacted VFP National and along with former Vietnam POW Phil Butler and Roland Fletcher VFP Chapter 46 was started. Since that time Phil Butler has remained a member of VFP 46 and had served on the VFP national board for several years.
