Community Safety Reminder – Seaside Highlands

We have received reports of DoorDash deliveries being brought to homes in Seaside Highlands where no order was placed.

While these incidents may be the result of innocent mistakes, we encourage residents to remain vigilant. We cannot rule out the possibility that someone may be using these deliveries as a way to determine whether residents are home.

As always, please be aware of your surroundings, report any suspicious activity, and contact the Seaside Police Department if you observe anything concerning. We would rather be cautious than overlook something that could impact the safety of our community.

Thank you for looking out for one another and helping keep Seaside safe.

Burglary Suspects Arrested‼️

On October 6th at approximately 3:00 AM, a storage shed containing antique decor was burglarized in the 1200 block of Fremont Blvd. The following night, the same suspect returned with a second individual and burglarized the location a second time.
Through a quick investigation utilizing security footage provided by neighboring businesses, officers were able to identify both suspects as Christopher Ruddy (46) and Ryan Stange (44).

With assistance from our partners at the Monterey Police Department, both individuals were safely taken into custody and booked into County Jail. Officers are currently working on locating and recovering the stolen items.

Great work by our officers and thank you to the local business community for their assistance! 🚔

COMMUNITY UPDATE REGARDING IMAGES CIRCULATING ONLINE

We are aware of photographs circulating online that appear to depict U.S. Border Patrol and federal agents conducting enforcement activity in Seaside. Based on our review, these images appear to be fabricated and are likely AI generated.

For the past several years, the Seaside Police Department has maintained open communication with our federal law enforcement partners. As part of that communication, federal agencies have notified our dispatch center when their personnel are conducting activity within our community.

We did not receive any notification of federal activity in Seaside today. After seeing the photographs, we immediately reached out to our federal partners and confirmed that the personnel and activity depicted in the images were not theirs.

We have also provided federal authorities with the locations where the photographs were reportedly taken so they can conduct any appropriate follow up regarding the creation and distribution of images that falsely use federal agency logos or otherwise misrepresent law enforcement activity.

We will never compromise a lawful law enforcement investigation or release information that could jeopardize the safety of officers, agents, or members of our community. At the same time, we will always be truthful with our community.

If you ever have questions about law enforcement activity occurring in Seaside, and answering those questions does not compromise an active investigation or someone’s safety, we will tell you what we can.

Our commitment is simple: protect our community, communicate honestly, and provide accurate information when it matters.

STANDOFF ENDS PEACEFULLY

Last night, just before midnight, Seaside Police officers responded to Sutter Street for a reported domestic violence incident. During the investigation, officers quickly learned that 25-year-old Jayden Stevenson was a wanted parolee with additional felony warrants.

When officers arrived, Stevenson refused to exit the residence, resulting in a several-hour standoff. Through patience, communication, and perseverance, officers continued working to safely resolve the situation.

Ultimately, Stevenson surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody and transported to the County Jail.

Situations like this can often end much differently. We are grateful for the professionalism, patience, and perseverance demonstrated by our officers throughout the incident and equally grateful that Stevenson ultimately chose to cooperate and that the situation ended peacefully.

Most importantly, all other occupants inside the home were safe.

Our officers will continue to work diligently to protect our community while seeking the safest possible resolution to challenging situations.
