The work happening today shapes the city people will live in tomorrow.
🔨
Every repaired street, maintained park, storm drain upgrade, and infrastructure project helps build a safer, stronger future for the next generation. Public Works isn’t just about fixing problems, it’s about planning ahead, improving quality of life, and helping communities grow.
🤝
As this year's comes to an end, we’re celebrating the people doing the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the future moving forward.

The Cities of Burien, Des Moines, and SeaTac submitted a formal request to the Port of Seattle for a 90-day comment period for its Sustainable Airport Master Plan (SAMP) State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) Draft Environmental Impact Statement expected to be released on May 22, 2026. That request was denied, stating that as of this time, they are only planning to keep the comment period open for a total of 60 days.

The draft will evaluate several airport-related improvement projects that “have implications for surface transportation, noise, air quality, land use, public health, construction impacts, stormwater, cumulative impacts, and quality of life.”

The Cities desire for this process to be productive, thorough, and move all parties closer to solutions that work for each of the communities served and reassert that 90 days is required for a fair process. The Cities urge the Port to reconsider and grant the request.

As May comes to a close, we’re wrapping up ICC Building Safety Month, a reminder that safe, resilient, and accessible buildings help create stronger communities for everyone.

This year’s theme, “Built to Last,” highlighted the many ways building safety impacts daily life: from simple steps homeowners can take to improve safety at home, to the professionals working behind the scenes to ensure buildings meet modern safety standards, support emergency preparedness, and create spaces that are accessible to all.

Here in SeaTac, that work happens every day thanks to the dedication of City staff across building, planning, engineering, permitting, and inspections. Their work helps ensure new development is safe, infrastructure is resilient, and community spaces are built with the future in mind.

Building safety is about more than codes and construction, it’s about protecting people, supporting neighborhoods, and helping our community continue to grow safely for years to come.

Thank you to the City staff and industry professionals who help keep SeaTac built to last.
