On March 14, 1964, Martin Luther King, Jr. received the John Dewey Award from the United Federation of Teachers and gave a speech in which he echoed the education funding crisis by saying that "the richest nation on earth has never allocated enough resources to build sufficient schools, to compensate adequately its teachers, and to surround them with the prestige our work justifies."

While tabling, we shared information about how educators, families, and community members can support a wealth tax to fund education as well as how to protect our students and families from immigration enforcement.

We marched from Garfield High School to Jimi Hendrix Park with the labor contingent.

Mark your 2025 calendars!
As you prepare for the next six months of the school year, here are predictable events that will be happening. However, there will be plenty other events as we fight for better working conditions for ourselves and learning conditions for our students.

Vote NO on all four statewide initiatives by November 5th!
These initiatives aim to remove social and environmental protections that our legislature has passed, which is why voting NO is so important.

Seattle is not alone in being a school district in Washington that is facing a budget crisis. The crisis is a result of policy choices that does not fully and equitably fund our schools.

The capital gains tax only impacts 0.2% of Washingtonians, but the repeal of the tax would impact 100% of our youth. Vote NO on I-2109!
