In recognition of National Su***de Prevention Month, the Regional Office of Gun Violence Prevention and are hosting a gun buyback event Saturday, September 12 from 8 am to 12 pm at Shoreline Community College.
A recent study published by The Jama Network reports su***de is the second leading cause of death among young people ages 14-18 years in the U.S. Fi***rm su***de attempts are highly lethal, and access to fi****ms in the home is associated with an increased risk of su***de among young people.
This event provides a safe and anonymous way for King County residents to dispose of unwanted fi****ms, which can help reduce the risk of them being used in a crisis or falling into the wrong hands. Gift cards will be given in exchange for fi****ms.
More information about the event can be found at kingcounty.gov/en/dept/dph/health-safety/safety-injury-prevention/regional-gun-violence-prevention/buyback.
