Chandra Dobbs was stunned when the constable showed up on her doorstep with a fat packet of eviction papers. She thought she had more time.

“I didn’t think I was going to be evicted because I applied for rental assistance money,” Dobbs said a few days later. “But they didn’t want to wait the four to six weeks. So now we’re homeless - me, my 16-year-old son, my daughter and my grandchild, a toddler.”

This past weekend, more than 60 action took place across the US as part of the National Days of Action to Stop Evictions.

Here is mainstream media coverage of just one of these protests, in Fresno, California, including a short video.

“Just cancel all these evictions. Let everybody have a safe home,” said a Fresno mother of six who experienced eviction.

Now more than ever, we need to keep fighting for an indefinite moratorium on evictions in Seattle and all over the country! This shows it can be done. Durkan is scared of the social unrest a wave of evictions will cause.

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan issued an executive order Tuesday extending the city's COVID-19 moratoriums on most residential eviction and some commercial evictions through Jan. 15. They were to expire at the end of the month.

Gov. Jay Inslee has extended the ban on evictions as a way to give Washington counties more time to distribute federal dollars that are part of the government's COVID-19 relief funds.
